We arrived without a reservation, hungry and on a busy dinner service!!! The staff were very friendly - found a table and the food was great. Very positive and friendly atmosphere.

Every trip to Hobart involves a trip to solo pasta and it never disappoints us. This time was just takeaway pizzas but they were unreal!
Excellent prices, food and service!

“Service, service, service. ”

My fiancée and I dined here on a very busy Tuesday night. The first through the doors at 5pm the restaurant filled up before us and transformed into a wonderful family restaurant with people laughing, eating and drinking. This is what eating is all about. There are more romantic restaurants to take your special someone; but Simon, (owner? Maître d'???) honestly made us feel like the most important people in there and even threw in a couple of sneaky liquors no charge.
The posters on the wall are pretty good also!

“Actually lives up to the hype!”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Having chosen it from TripAdvisor (top-rated restaurant in Hobart) my husband and I went to Solo last night on the off-chance - and it was packed. We were offered a table right by the door, and normally we would have refused, but I was hungry, and the staff were so smiley and welcoming, and I'm very glad we did. There were several family groups in, having a whale of a time, so it's certainly a good place for kids.
I had a small spag bol and a side salad, and husband had a medium pizza, and we were both full at the end of it - no need for starters or dessert, although both selections looked delicious. The pasta was perfect - just the right amount of sauce and length of cooking - and apparently the pizza was super (not over-cheesed like so many).
Lots of people were collecting takeaways - including two sets of policemen, which felt very New York - and the open kitchen was a floor show in itself.
It's not a fancy place, and you'll certainly get to know your table neighbours (and if you're after a quiet romantic dinner, steer clear), but the food is excellent, the staff a delight and the whole experience a great deal of fun.

“Fantastic family dinner”
Reviewed January 4, 2014 via mobile

Had dinner here on a Saturday at 6 pm for our 12yo son's birthday, were very glad we booked (at 11am of the same day, the only remaining available sitting was for 6pm)! Seems this place is very popular with locals and tourists alike, which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly, delicious food (very generous portions), warm atmosphere. It's not cheap, but worth it ! It does get very crowed (for all the good reasons), so just one negative point is that while you are having dinner at your table there might be a lot of people standing at the entrance and staring at you whilst waiting for their table to become available , which is a bit unpleasant. We would definitely recommend this place and would return for a meal when visiting hobart again.
