“Brilliant flavours”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

13 friends booked a table to enjoy a night together. The meals were excellent. The flavours of fresh Tasmanian produce and Vietnamese spices were brilliant. The portion sizes satisfied everyone in our group, and the prices not expensive. Our only concern was the speed of service, but it was really only an issue until the entrees reached us - once the edge had gone, we were happy. It seems a large and noisy group who had not booked arrived for a meal, and the staff were ensuring their needs were met and they were therefore less noisy...but after all, we'd gone to the trouble of booking, had arrived on time, and felt entitled to prior service. But when all is said and done, the food was well worth any wait. And good Tasmanian wines at a very competitive price.

“Excellent food but poor service”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Excellent pho bo but BAD and very slow service especially just after lunch time. There were only two to three table occupied yet it took 45 minutes for two bowl of noodles. Lemon slices accompanying main meal being left outside for too long (refer pix)

“A Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

We went mid-week without a reservation and were surprised at the number of people dining (a good sign), particularly as this restaurant is located outside the primary Hobart restaurant strips.

Decor is pleasant and restaurant is much larger than it appears from the street as the first floor is also part of the restaurant. We were seated immediately and pre-dinner drink orders were taken quickly and delivered within a reasonable period. We had checked the wine list on-line which is adequate but limited so took a bottle and staff were happy to open - corkage is $10/bottle.

Menu is extensive and appears to contain a wide range of traditional Vietnamese food. The difficulty we had was selecting our preferred options. Unfortunately, one of the entrees we chose was not available nor was the advertised speciality steamboat. Food quality was good as was quantity, balance (featured ingredient to accompaniment) and value.

We were a couple and our service was friendly and efficient. If anything a little too efficient as serving plates were cleared while we were still eating. We met friends dining in a larger group and while they agreed with us regarding the food they found the service was well short of their expectations.

A minor matter but toilet facilities seem inadequate for a restaurant of this size (1 shared cubicle) and don't appear to be serviced through the night. I washed my hands on arrival and noted the paper towel was almost used so I let one of the staff know it needed replacing, when I used the toilet later in the night the paper towel had not been replaced and run out.

Overall a good night with a few small issues. We would definitely return for another meal and would recommend it to others.

“Consistent quality and service”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

I've lunched at Sapa Rosa quite a few times now and continue to be impressed. The lunch menu is fairly small but with a wide range of variation on chicken soup, beef soup (Pho), rice and stir fry dishes, clay pot and others. Top of the list has to be their chicken soup. The stock base of this soup is absolutely outstanding - the feature of the dish, as it should be. There are ample egg or rice noodles to fill you up, the vegetables beautifully fresh and the optional extras (my favourite is the seafood) are always on the mark. A side dish of bean sprouts (which philistine I am I dump straight into the soup), sliced chillies and lemon come as standard options. The service is prompt and courteous. There is a modest wine list, which doesn't seem to change much, and on which some of the wines are questionable as matches for the food (or my palate's sense of it), but it seems to work. The low price of food of such high quality represents excellent value. Definitely worth a visit, well actually more than one.

“Just logely”
Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

We only had a small meal in there tonight. But so worth it
Tasty food. Reasonably generous servings, A1 service. Tastefully decorated
We will be back
So superior to that awful Vietnamese Kitchen in Salamanca Place. Give that place a wide berth
