I really like this restaurant - water views if you sit in the right area, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and really tasty food. Very reasonable prices - a good option if you don't want to spend a fortune on a night out in Hobart.

We came here to try something different. The food itself was quite nice. Where the restaurant let itself down was the excess charges and lack of common sense with certain things...

We were asked if we wanted poppadums as we were seated. We said yes and 2 poppadums were brought out for each person; they were accompanied with a mint dip + a small amount of other sauces. When we looked on the menu it said poppadums + mint dip $3 for 4 (seemed fair enough but we weren't told about the price when we were asked if we wanted any). It was only later that we realised they had also charged an EXTRA $7.50 for the small amount of sauces. This was NOT on the menu nor were we asked about this!

One of our party ordered biriyani (a 100% rice dish) yet when we looked at the bill they had charged each of us $1.90 for the Jasmine rice. I'm not sure why someone would want extra plain rice when they had a rice dish (lack of common sense here?)...

The drinks were also quite expensive. A glass of post mix lemonade $4, non alcoholic ginger beer $6.50!!!

Service seemed a little intrusive - we seemed to have someone asking us about extra drinks, food etc. every few minutes.

Whilst the food was quite nice I won't return due to the overcharging of certain items.

We tried 3 Indian restaurants in our 2 weeks stay...Annapurna at Salamanca, Indian curries at battery point and saffron at the pier in front of Davey st and grand chancellor hotel in that order....I wished it was the reverse as our Xmas night tonight at saffron was the worst. Bad service...delays delays delays...then to top it all ..completely unfair charges...they leave papadam at the table and you assume it complimentary , then you find $3 for it....we ordered a rice for our 3 year Old and they charged for 3 people on the table....seekh kebab were as if rocks....anyway...we dint make an issue of the charges.. but the food took a good 30 mts after reminders and starters were brought together with the mains....Annapurna was the complete opposite, excellent service, in fact we were pleasantly surprised when they had themselves taken off the starter charges just because they served 5 minutes late than they promised.....plus the service was outstanding....I think saffron does well because of the location not because of it's overall value...we saw sooo many irritates faces today waiting waiting waiting.....not a good example to set for a Xmas night.

Dear guest
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I am certainly disappointed that your experience was not all that it could have been.
I would like to apologise on behalf of my restaurant and its team . We always aim to offer good service and good food to all our guests and if there is any complaint we make an effort to resolve this immediately. Your complaint for food and delay in service is certainly not typical but we will be sure to raise this with our entire team so as to improve.
You may also be interested to learn that this was a Xmas day and most of the businesses were closed on this day. Most of the people came at the same time and also without booking so it took a while to serve everyone at the same time.

However I would take pleasure in welcoming you back so that you could experience and enjoy good food and good service at our restaurant as it was meant to be. Please feel free to contact my self directly if you are coming back again so that I may personally take care.
Once again please do accept my apologies and we do hope that the remainder of your trip to hobart was most enjoyable. We wish you a very happy new year and thanks for your feedback.

We had the vegetable platter as a starter but couldn't taste anything but the thick batter, the two main meals we ordered (chicken curry and lamb rogan josh) were bland and tasteless, more like stews than Indian meals. The staff were friendly enough but the menus and the beer advertisement on the table were greasy to the touch and needed replacing. Probably the most average Indian meal we have ever had.
