Converted from a garage and warehouse, this exquisite restaurant provides intimate and friendly communal table dining whilst providing an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The menu is varied and interesting and service was very good.

The restaurant does not take bookings so be sure to come early or put your name down and have a drink next door at the Pump House.

After hearing all the hype we needed to test it out for ourselves on our last trip to Hobart.
Great funky interior, took a little while for us to get used to sitting so close to others on a long table but once we did it was enjoyable.
Food was very unique & very tasty. Service impeccable - swift & friendly yet not intrusive. Fairly pricey but a very different experience. Loved the cheese plate for dessert!

When you walk into this Restuarant, the feel is pretty chic, it's communal tables, so we are all dining like one group. Same like the food, it's all for sharing with a partner and it is really amazing. Apparently, the menu changes from time to time, but one thing you must try if it is on their menu is the waygu beef. Totally, awesome, mouth watering and just yummylicious. Do visit the place if you can and they also have great wines to go with the food!

We booked here on a weekend in Hobart after reading the professional reviews. We appreciate food in all it varieties and happy to engage with new things. Loved the decor and the vibe of the room. Staff were busy but pleasant and explained the tapas style menu to us. We eat at restaurants to have food we can't cook at home and don't demand large servings or value. Garagistes seemed to fit the bill until the food arrived. Yes the presentation was cool. Yes the produce quality was excellent. You could tell a lot of thought had gone into the concept and creation of the dishes but there were two obvious things gone wrong. The technical chef's dishes do not combine to form a meal and the lack of fat and salt in almost all the dishes meant there was very little flavour or even difference in the dishes. There was nothing robust here and too many of the same flowers and creams on the plates. Finally, GREAT wine list but very inaccessible to those couple who like to food match and order wine by the glass. I might go back for a nibble and a wine but never again for dinner.

We wen to Garigstes on a night out while visiting MONA this weekend. I will keep this review short. We ordered 3 dishes. Broad beans, Potatoes and the pork. The first 2 dishes were tasty and interesting if a little light on for substance. At $38 the pork neck was straight out disappointing. It was cooked sous vide. Not tasty and being a small medallion at 120g was risible value. Yu should have seen the look on the face of the group of 4 next too us when it arrived. The test for me of eating out is "Can I do better at home" and for the pork neck the answer is a yes. My impression is this restaurant is that it has a good reputation because it is the best in Hobart. In Sydney it would last about 3 months at this price point. For a better alternative try malaysian at Sawak Cafe - best roti canai I have eaten in decades!
