“Not Amazing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

I was excited to try this spot on a night out in Hobart as people said it was the place to go. It's hard to rate as the food was very hit or miss. Nothing was outstanding before we had the last course, lamb, which was amazing. Saying the service was unfriendly is an understatement, they def want you to feel like its they are doing you a service by letting you eat there, not the other way around. It wasn't all bad but we eat at great places all the time and Tassie has so much amazing food, I won't be rushing back.

“Long queue is definitely worth the wait.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012

Amazing menu. Great variety of choices using locally sourced produce. Quirky seating arrangements - diners all seated at a long table. Need to get there early or face a long wait in a queue as no reservations are taken.

“Left hungry and disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

Had dinner at this restaurant with three colleagues and have to say that whilst the meals were superbly presented and the taste sensational, we left hungry.

The menu that you select from - modern Australian vs tapas - is small and select with some very interesting choices but above all the food was delicious and combinations superb.

Good choice of wines were also available but we ended up pouring most of the wines ourselves.

Found the service cool to tepid from our waitress. A huge topping of attitude and not a smile to be seen.

Good to have tried this trendy Hobart eatery but will not be going again.

“Garagistes Welcome Sidecar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

On a cold rainy Monday evening in Hobart we venture out when most would stay indoors for a light meal and drink at 'Sidecar' the sister bar/waiting room of Garagistes. We are not alone, there is a small crowd enjoying the warmth, food and excellent wine by the glass on offer by this Sidecar an otherwise hole-in-the-wall you would pass if you didn't know it was there. We sampled Celariac & Fennel gratin; wagyu hot dogs; cod fritters and a magnificent charcuterie platter for four eaten quickly by two washed down by a selection of premium wines by the glass. Highly recommended for a drink & excellent bar food.

“Relaxed, Fun, Interesting...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2012

The get-there-before-six-or-you-will-not-get-a-table drama turned out to be a little over-hyped, although on the Friday we were there a small queue did form about 7.30, but nothing challenging. The dining style is communal high tables with stools (with backrests!) and the food is served on shared plates that you and your companions take at the pace they come from the kitchen.

The food is interesting – pig’s ear (tastes like crackling), salsify (turnip), tongue (tongue) and so on. Each dish was excellently prepared and professionally served. The waiters were helpful with the wines and the whole experience was totally enjoyable. This is a fun place to eat, but it is not genius level dining. Would I go there again and recommend it to friends? Definitely!
