“Best thing is the barista!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

I've been hanging out to make a morning at Pigeonhole but apart from the lovely coffee, and slice of homemade custard tart, my soft baked eggs with up to date potatoes and sprig onion was ridiculous. It came out ninth most shallow of bold I've ever encountered with two transparent pieces of the 'up to date' potatoes in it, I could see through them and I couldn't eat it as the egg White was snottily still runny. Yuck., I did tell the waitress but no apologies, nothing. Pretentious and a bit wanky. The barista, 'Kev' is amazing and I'd go for a coffee but they won't get my custom again otherwise...

“Pretentious nonsense which detracts from the experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

After droppinga car off at the airport we wanted a treat and sallied forth for a second visit to this smallish cafe. It has been quite some time between visits and we fear that it seems as if the pigeon hole is getting a lot too up itself. The chalk board had 4 different languages on it but when the water was brought it was tepid and my glass had a very obvious piece of crud stuck on the rim. Surely a young waitress with far younger eyes should pick this up and replace the glass. My wife ordered some really over the top sounding dish [Croque-monsieur] which turned out to be an acceptable but pretty average "Toastie" with cheese sauce on top. My concoction was written as Eggs En Cocotte which was listed as having Jamon; Summer Onions;Cress; Preserved Lemon; Lovage Oil; & Talegglio. I kid you not ! At this point i must admit that we have lived in Europe for more than ten years and between my wife and i have eaten all over in diffrent countries including France [Paris] Spain [Madrid;Barcelona] Italy;
Greece; Germany [West & East, before the wall came down in Berlin and Munich and i have never eaten so little and such a tasteless load of overpriced codswallop any where else in the world; and this includes Africa. The eggs were almost raw and tiny. The socalled JAMON was paper thin ham which was so miniscule that it went missing. The cress was limp and bland; i never found either the lovage poil nor the pickled lemon and the so called Taleggio had been shaved and looked like tiny flakes of ;Well anything and when that few and that sparse how can it taste of anything. Even the bread was lacking and all in all describing this as pretentious is actually being polite. Get real guys Nouvelle cuisine never really took off as in the end most people want decent wholesome food served with a smile at an affordable price. Amen !

“Great sandwiches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

We were visiting our daughter in Hobart. On a whim she suggested we try Pigeon Hole as it has great sandwiches, freshly made. We arrived at just the right time. They were just finishing up what we wanted and a couple of minutes later had the vegetarian choice she loved. The sandwiches were all great, and very fresh. Drop in!

“Nice enough”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013 via mobile

First trip here. Venue is nice& like the neighbourhood. Coffee was good but cup taken away when barely finished as if eager to get rid of us. But we were waiting for food!! Food took quite a while to arrive- think they forgot about us- and was nice, just a little small. Had king island beef hash panini and a raclette and onion one. Service was ok. Didn't like that cashier 'waved ' the card before we could check the amount. The amount he put through was correct but I would have preferred to have checked it first.
