“A perfect start to the day!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2011

This great little cafe is simple and unpretentious, with awesome coffee and a large selection of freshly baked breads, it is the perfect start to the day. Also, the staff are very friendly and hospitable.

“Limited .”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2011

We visited this cafe after reading various reviews but were alittle disappointed. It copes well with limited space - staff were helpul and efficient but menu rather limited and not everything on the menu, was available. Coffee was very good but probably not worth the walk up from Sallamanca Place.

“Very popular, so dont expect to get a seat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2011

I had read a lot of recommendations to visit this cafe, but was disappointed at the unorganised service. It is a very small cafe with a high demand of customers so it can get very busy. In the end i opted for take away coffee which was pretty good, but they did have other goodies if you wanted them. Be warned if you are going with a few people and want to seat be prepared to wait, it was a freezing day so waiting out side wasnt an option for us.

“Cute. Awesome.”

Great coffee, great atmosphere. Not enough seats as it gets PACKED OUT on the weekend, but it is a pigeon hole after all. The food is really yummy, I just wish there was more in the serves!

“Gem of a neighborhood cafe!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2010

Pigeon Hole café is your quintessential neighbourhood café, located just outside the city centre in West Hobart near the corner of Molle St & Goulburn St - right next door to the Goulburn Street Art Gallery.

It feels like a cosy, foodies kitchen café, with a narrow L shaped dining area taking you into the clean, lamp lit nest where nourishing, beautiful food awaits you. There is also a wonderful wooden communal table at the front of the café and casual seating out front.

The menu offers a simple range of Breakfast, Soup, Panini and Small Plate items that are seasonal and elegant.

For me, Pigeon Hole is all about the art of the Panini.

Call it a panini, focaccia, toasted sandwich - whichever you prefer, Pigeon Hole take the experience to a new level of perfection. They are served with your choice of filling - inspired and seasonal - perfectly toasted, buttered and sprinkled in ground salt & pepper, on a wooden bread board. My favourite is the Organic Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil and it is indeed sublime.

The service is excellent, friendly and the café is kept in tip top shape - clean, tidy with lovely homely touches like flowers, fruit filled jars and groovy music at just the right level. They offer a range of fresh baked sweet treats daily and a selection of Chado House of Tea teas for the tasting. I have had a couple of coffees at Pigeon Hole recently and they are well presented, but lack the fresh roast, robust flavour of a truly great coffee.

Expect to see neighbours catching up, corporate types talking business, mums & bubs and all those who have discovered this delightful café. It is a nice change up from the busy streets of inner city Hobart and the kind of café every neighbourhood would love to have. If you haven’t been to Pigeon Hole yet, the Panini alone will see you become a regular!
