Not much to see, just the skeleton of a convict factory although the history of those times interesting to read about what happened to the women convicts and the babies born to them in such awful conditions.

I went awhile ago with the kids and were the only ones on the tour. The lady showing us around was fantastic and was able to describe the complex very well for the kids. 99 percent of the complex has been demoblised but still a great tour.

I found the site a bit sterile. It needs more interpretation and signage. Opportunities for taking photos is also limited.

Getting to the Cascades Female Factory in time for the 11.00 am performance of 'Her Story' (only the one performance each day) was one of the best things we did during our week in Hobart. The two brilliant actors made the site come alive for us and gave us a detailed and moving insight into what happened at the prison and what life there was like for the convict women who lived and worked there. I strongly recommend 'Her Story' (45 minutes) and the short mini-tour afterwards of the superintendent's cottage. Without these we would not have properly understood the significance of the site and would probably have left disappointed.

As a local you don't often visit tourist attractions on your doorstep. We recently took the time to visit the Cascades Female Factory and participated in Her Story. It was wonderful - not only providing an insight into the life of female convicts but also the sad tale of children born within the prison walls. A must do for visitors to Hobart and I encorage locals to take the time out and visit this amazing part of our history. Congratulations to everyone involved in developing this great tourist attraction.
