If you're after all the latest mod-cons and a hotel-like experience, you've come to the wrong place.
If you are after somewhere comfortable, quiet, characterful and perhaps a touch quirky, Bendalls may be the place for you.
With access to a car, this place provides you with a great base for exploring Hobart and surrounding districts. It is walking distance from the waist-expanding perils of North Hobart (probably a good idea to walk given the kilojoules that you may later regret!) - but far enough away from the more 'touristy' highlights of the Hobart waterfront and Battery Point to make car availability handy.
The rooms have been renovated to allow for a decent level of comfort while substantially maintaining the best of the character of the original building. The rooms are away from New Town Rd - so there are no noise issues to fear. The beds are comfortable.
Bathroom/Toilet/Fridge & Washer facilities are all shared (not a problem for us). The shower is, however, over an old-fashioned claw-footed bath. Rather fun - but a potential challenge if you're not so nimble...
The makings of a nice breakfast are provided.
Our hosts (Karen & Roger) are wonderfully obliging (they even hung out our washing to dry for us!) and have the sort of passion for their house and garden that shows in the most positive way. The garden is particularly delightful. It is not there just for show - although the display of different varieties of iris in bloom when we visited could lead you to conclude that this might have been the case.
I'd be most happy to stay here again - and I'll recommend Bendalls to family and friends.
