Its not cheap if you just use the room to bunk down for the night but it had everything we needed. Free wi-fi, cooling and heating, bar fridge with tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, iron and ironing board. The bed was fantastic and the pillows were great! House keeping was fabulous and tendered to the room daily. We stayed on the fourth floor opposite facing the main street - the noise was not that bad, but then again, we were up early and back late. The staff at reception were always happy, efficient and very helpful. Dave even supplied me with ear plugs when I told him a tale about snoring. The hotel has an arrangement with the car park behind the hotel. We paid about $6.50 a night which we thought was extremely reasonable in comparison to prior experiences. Location is great because you can walk to local restaurants and bars and the wharf is only a stroll away. I highly recommend Hotel Collins and would not hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed 6 nights in an apartment with a king bed, it was expensive. Was it worth it?
A resounding yes!
The wifi works fine and the RJ45 network connection for my laptop combined with the desk was a nice workstation to work from.
The staff are all respectful and friendly. We had an issue with our sink draining and it was fixed immediately.
The apartment was large with a surprisingly very equipped kitchen even though we only used it for breakfasts. We didn't eat in the restaurant because it lacked atmosphere and by using Trip advisor wanted to explore other restaurants.
The best features are the bed and pillows (wow i'm buying those pillows when I get home!) the other is the double glazed windows. Very very quite at night.
If I was going to really pick then it would be some of the tiles in the bathroom are very dusty, don't think they have been cleaned since hand over from the builder.
Would I stay again? very likely!

Room Tip: if you are staying a few days then an apartment may be worth while. Choose the 10th floor for the b...

The employees of Hotel Collins are helpful. The hotel is in a good location to walk to the wharf and shopping area. We had dinner at the hotel one night and it was extremely expensive for the food quality. I had a porterhouse steak but is was tough and not much flavor. I told the waiter but he didn't seem to care. The nightly cost of the room is high for the accommodations. The room was clean but small. I think the room was overpriced by about 25 percent.

Spent a night at the Hotel Collins before flying back from Tasmania to the mainland.
The hotel is a short walk to the CBD and harbour areas and many of the tourist attractions (museums, Mawson's huts, Salamanca, etc). You can park in the Market Place car park - get the hotel to stamp your parking ticket and you get a reduced rate of $14.95.
The outstanding feature of the hotel is the friendly and efficient staff both on the reception desk and in the restaurant.
The hotel is spread over 10 floors; there are only a few rooms on each floor and two fast lifts so getting up and down the building is not a problem. Our room had a great view out to Mount Wellington.
I booked a "Club" room and I was a little disappointed; for two people the room size is quite small - difficult to find space for two suitcases. I am not sure what differentiated this from a "basic" room and there were no additional amenities that I would expect when booking "Club" eg no robes or slippers.
There is plenty of space to unpack, with both hanging and shelf space. The bed was "so comfortable"; there is a chair to relax and a desk chair and a good size desk from which to do some work.
The wardrobe contains a safe with ample space for laptop, travel papers, etc - however the safe has a very strange locking mechanism and it would be easy to misread the instructions and lock the safe with an unknown combination.
There is a good supply of teas and coffees and a mini-bar with a small supply of alcoholic and soft drinks.
The bathroom includes a large towel, fluffy towels and plenty of soap and cosmetics.
The restaurant served good food both in the evening and breakfast, but lacks soul - if feels like a basic cafe but serving 5-star food and with 5-star service. It is worth prebooking breakfast for a small discount and watch out for the evening $28 specials which are great value.
The hotel's big let down is the WiFi. The guest information warns about SMTP (outbound mail) being blocked by the Firewall; my suspicion is that the Firewall blocks a lot more than that, and whilst the WiFi is OK for Facebook, Twitter, etc I switched to Telstra 3G for e-mail as both inbound and outbound mail was slow and unreliable. Whilst I appreciate that hotels need to exercise care with respect to cyber security, being able to send and receive e-mail via Outlook, iPhone, etc is one of the modern world's necessities.
Were it not for the WiFi issue, I would certainly return for a short stay.

Excellent accommodation, great location (in CBD, walking distance to shops, cafes & waterfront, separate carpark behind hotel). Great service from staff, only dilemma is not being able to print in business suite, you then have to go to Reception and ask them to do it for you, which wastes their time and yours. Room and food was pricey but may have been due to time of year (high demand due to Sydney to Hobart yachts arriving & Hobart food & wine festival on at same time), however pricing could be simply do to standard & features of hotel.

I frequently stay here for work and personal travel and am never disappointed by the service provided by friendly, welcoming staff. Location is so central and the cafe can provide good quality food in the cafe or to your room, including good espresso coffee. All requests for additions and changes to the menu are accommodated and nothing is too much trouble. The normal rooms are compact but comfortable. Beds have doonas and nice soft pillows. Only problem is that this hotel is so good that sometimes I can't get in and have to go elsewhere.

Room Tip: The one bedroom apartments are very comfortable if you are prepared to pay for them. Very roomy and...
