Cellabrating our 20th Wedding Anerversary my husband decided to book a Mystery Break with Virgin. Answering all the questions pior to booking i.e - reason for booking a Mystery Break, he decided to book the 3 night gettaway. It sounds great, especiallly when Virgin know why your making a booking. We flew from Melbourne to Tassie. Not that we are complaining, but thought they could've done better - Dunk island?? considering the $$$$ and occassion. We did have a lovely time, however our own bed room is twice the size of the hotel accommodation we stayed in (couldnt swing a cat). Infact we have stayed in QLD, Thailand and Bali with accommodation 10 times nicer/more romantic. After crunching the figures, we could've have done much nicer accommodation for less. Actually we could,ve gone to Tassie or a different location includ flights and accommodation for much less. But I guess at the end of the day it is a mysery so you get what your given. Just don't hold expectations to high. It the luck of the draw. Do what we done, make the most of it. Would we ever take another Virgin Mystery Break - NO

Room Tip: Do your own Mystery Trip, better value at the end of the day Do not stay at the Hotel on Collins if you want a romantic getaway unless you like brick walls and roof tops for views. And want to listen to the people in the next room having a shower etc

Found this place on the net but ended up just driving straight to it and booking at reception. The staff were very informative and even gave us the room a little cheaper. Queen size hotel room was smallish, but the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was immaculate.

We found the Collins hotel to be clean and comfortable for a multi-night stay in Hobart Tasmania. A key for us was that they had great laundry services with multiple washers and dryers. The small cafe in the lobby was very reliable with good availability for a quick coffee or snack. It was close both to the center of town and the harbor area. The rooms were a little "sterile" but had a great bathroom and functioning A/C and heating. We would recommend this hotel....although a little pricey...

We stayed at the Hotel Collins for two nights in a twin room. This hotel is well located in compact Hobart, opposite the Hospital and a five minute walk from the Elizabeth St. Mall and the Habour. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed, we were given a handicapped room (which we didnt need, but this was really not an issue, but we would have preferred one with a bath). My only issues with the room, were that a couple of bathroom fittings were a little loose and that the instructions for the inroom safe didn t seem to work properly for our safe and we had to call for assistance. Our room had no view but we loved the webcam channels on the TV showing Mount Wellington and the Habour.

We had breakfast in Restaurant Collins (one morning) and it was very good. Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and prompty attended to our needs. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floor if you want a view

We were staying two nights in Hobart so searched Wotif for a hotel that was available, had a king bed and decent reviews and stumbled upon Hotel Collins.

Pros: The room was clean, the staff were lovely. And it's in a very good position in the CBD, close to everything. Room service is quite reasonably priced. We stayed on Sunday-Monday nights and sleeping at night wasn't an issue (unlike comments from other TripAdvisor users) as we encountered no noise during the night.

Cons: paying for public parking (but at least you get a discount being a hotel guest), you can feel where the two single beds meet to make the king bed (which made it hard to sleep anywhere near the middle), the room service wasn't very nice unfortunately and arrived missing the main ingredient, however I'm sure had I contacted Reception they would have fixed it. We were hungry and I wanted to eat at the same time as my partner so didn't make a fuss. No view from our room whatsoever. Which was fine for us, but you'd be disappointed if you wanted one in this hotel I think.
