“Good Italian style food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2014

The food was really good and the service was as well. Plenty of wines to choose from. The only negative thing was the noise, and there was plenty of it, given all the hard surfaces in the restaurant. If you don't have a hearing difficulty then it will be no problem.

“Simply Yummey!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2014

We tried this restaurant at the start of our trip in Tasmania while in Hobart. We liked it so much we went back for our last night when we returned back to Hobart. It is a lovely Italian restaurant in a square off Salamanca Place. The deserts are heaven and good choice of wines. When we arrived the first night the guy serving said that the wait may be a bit slow as his colleague had not turned up so he was on this own, but said he would be with us as soon as he could. Within a short time he had taken our orders and serve our drinks. You could not fault the service. We also tried the Salamanca Grill (restaurant in the hotel) okay but not much atmosphere and the Ball & Chain on Salamanca Place which is a pub with restaurant at the back - not bad... good for steaks if you like them.

“A typical Italian Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

Atmosphere was a little sterile, but the menu was typically Italian and the kitchen delivered excellent food. Wine choice was good too and we finished with four Tiramisu's which we all rated as among the best we had ever tried.

“Busy but good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

I was there one night with friends and we managed to get a table without booking. Although the waiter was on his own and the place was crowded the service never lagged and the food was excellent. I recommend the risotto and the pork. The wine list is small but good.

“Trying to regain its former standing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

A family meal to celebrate birthdays and the another year drawing to a close saw us congregating at Cuiccio. The reviews wren't encouraging since the venue changed hands so we weren't expecting too much. However, we got a telephone call to confirm the reservation which led us to expect improvements were occurring.
As it turned out the evening was reasonable but still has some way to regain the quality of old. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived, even so it was a fair wait until we got our drinks and the meal orders taken.
The tables aound us had some children and the restaurant seemed to cater for them well even providing packages to take the leftovers home.
We started with a couple of garlic pizzas, the base was excellent but there must have been a garlic shortage as it was difficult to detect a garlic taste even though there was just the faintest odour of garlic on the topping.
When ordering the wine from the wine list we were told that the bottles selected weren't available with the excuse that "we are changing the wine list". As the wine list is just a typed A4 sheet, I can only put it down to a poor service culture that this hasn't been updated.
The mains arrived quite promptly there after. Two ordered lamb cutlets and those seem to have been the pick of the menu, cooked to a turn. Two pizzas orders produced variable results, one was pretty oily while the other had a better reception.
A good gnocchi dish is a signature of a good italian restuarant. This dish still had a fair bit of room for improvement. The sauce was good - but lacked enough meat while the gnocchi were too floury and a bit stoggy. The rissoto with italian salsicce and fennel lacked much fennel taste and if it wasn't for the overcooked rice would have been swimming in oil. The penne arrabiatta was the most disappointing dish of the evening - too much oil - we drained a tablespoon out of the dish before starting, too light on chilli (the menu said they would make it to taste, but the waiteress didn't ask how spicy it should be) but at least the penne were al dente.
A large party arrived at about the mid point of the meal and so the noise level in the restaurant increaed massively. With exposed concrete walls everywhere and no soft furnishing it was a large echo chamber.
Gorrie who ran the bar all night was very efficient and when we came to pay he sought feedback on how we found the meals as he said they were aiming to improve, We will see, it will be quite a few months before I go back for another try to give them time to get it right.
