“Beautiful apartment in an amazing location with fantastic view.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

We recently stayed for two nights in an IXL penthouse apartment and it was beautiful.

New Years eve was spectacular and our visit coincided with the Taste festival and the Sydney to Hobart yachts were still moored at Constitution Dock.

The apartment was beautifully appointed, clean and spacious. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Would love to come back and do it all again next year.

We hope you have booked again for next year! There is no better apartment in Hobart to watch the Sydney to Hobart race and the fireworks on NYE!

The Admiral's Suite is fantastic for entertaining. My husband, baby and I shared the suite with my parents and there was plenty of room for everyone. There is a very large master room with ensuite and a decent sized second bedroom, which we had set up with a second king sized bed.

The main bathroom has a shower and bath, ideal for bathing the little one. The kitchen is fully equipped, and even has a coffee machine. The is also a large private courtyard/balcony with an outdoor dining table and two sun beds.

Only complaint would be the street lighting which shines into the master bedroom during the night.

A great place to stay if you're spending a few nights in Hobart and want the convenience of a fully self-contained apartment!

The Admiral's Suite is a very special apartment and located in one of Hobart's oldest buildings. The renovation is spectacular and the location is unsurpassed with views across to the fishing docks and a short stroll from Salamanca.

A group of 8 of us stayed in two of the their IXL Penthouse Suites during our trip to Hobart. The apartment was spacious and modern with decent view of the bay area (although one was better than the other). Would recommend for families or large groups. The power went out for a few hours one afternoon in one of the apartments and it was a bit of a process to get it sorted (a lot of running around for the electrician) however we were offered a free night’s stay for our trouble which was appreciated.

From memory most of the kitchen utensils were provided. Only minor issue was water going everywhere in the bathrooms as there wasn’t a door for the shower and only a small glass panel for the bath.

Good location – walking distance to Salamaca which has plenty of restaurants and shops.

Overall had an enjoyable stay and would go back!

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. Very glad to hear that we'll be welcoming you back! Sometimes it can be a challenge to get tradesmen in to fix things on weekends on the rare occasions that things need a fix during a stay. We do appreciate your patience as we got one of our on call regular maintenance people in to get the power back on for you as quickly as possible. This is certainly not a regular occurrence as our apartments are very regularly maintained to a high standard.

We stayed in the huge Dockside Penthouse (Brook St) for 4 days recently with all the family. It was a fabulous location with probably the best views in Hobart. The apartment was spacious with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living areas. 2 Parking spots (although VERY difficult tight parking).
Was also great value for around $600 pn as we would have needed 3-4 hotel rooms elsewhere so couldn't have afforded this location, would highly recommend for a family group. A few issues, nothing major but will note them in case they can be improved;
1. A very small rubbish bin, serviced 6 days a week. 1 family would have filled it in a day but with 3 families and 2 babies in nappies, we had bags of rubbish and had to take it out ourselves, especially on the Sunday.
2. This sounds trivial - but no handles on the kitchen cupboards! Really annoying, had to kind of open it with your foot and we all broke nails! Also no spatula in the room, we had to go buy one to make bacon and eggs.
3. The shower in the main bathroom flooded the floor. We asked for extra towels to mop it up and received a very curt reply from housekeeping that they'd never seen that before so it must have been something we did. Yes, we used the shower! There was no seal under the shower door and the floor was flat so the water ran straight out.
4. Heating/cooling - the smallest of the downstairs double bedrooms was very hot and stuffy - we couldn't shut the door so lucky it was family and we didn't need privacy, the 2nd double bedroom downstairs wasn't much better. But the room with 2 single beds was freezing cold as there seemed to be some kind of draught.
5. Three legged coffee tables - not very child friendly as it topples over very easily and could easily cause injury to babies/toddlers just starting to stand.
6. Take your own portable cot if you need it - they are very old cheap ones.
But overall, if traveling in a family group we'd stay here again as the location was great value for money. Would be nicer if the downstairs bathrooms were updated to the style of the upstairs one, which was lovely. With a few fairly minor improvements this could be 5*.
Reservations and check in/out were all very friendly and helpful (although not on site - which wasn't a problem for us).

My friend and I spent a long weekend in the IXL apartments and it was great with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There was plenty of room with a large kitchen, dining lounge area. The balcony was great as well.Everything was super clean and my friend loved the heated towel rails!
Only a small complaint but heavier window coverings would make for a longer sleep in. Very central and an easy walk to Salamanca. Breakfast at Jam Packed in the Henry Jones atrium area was a must each morning.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor and not much of a view. If you can, book a room on the fifth floor for grea...

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay in an IXL Executive apartment. They are great, spacious apartments. The best views in that building can be had from the penthouses on the 5th floor.

The apartment we stayed in was above the ball and chain and it was truly beautiful. The lay out and design of the apartment was fantastic and place seems really keen.
Unfortunately after sleeping in the master bedroom my partner and I woke up with bug bites (not mosquitoe) over our body from something in the covers. A few other small this such as they shower head in the ensuit not working properly and the sink plug not working also put a dampener on my experience.

I would not choose this apartment again soon.

If you have woken with what appears to be bites it certainly wouldn’t have been from anything within any of our apartments. Our cleanliness, standards of hygiene and attention to detail is first class.
Thank you for bring to our attention the issue with the plumbing we have addressed this already this morning.

We spent a week at the Salamanca Apartments with 2 couples. The apartment is very stylish and in a wonderful location right on Salamanca Place.
Of course this wonderful position can mean a little noise, but that's the price you pay for being so close to all the bars and restaurants. In fact our apartment was directly above the Ball and Chain Grill and this occasionally caused noise above and beyond the usual; although never to the extent that it was a problem.
The apartment is very comfortable with 2 bedrooms (one en-suite) and plenty of classy modern touches including free wi-fi. However, the extensive use of glass walls means that it's almost impossible to get to sleep while anyone else has a light on. Thicker curtains, particularly in the non-en-suite room would make a huge difference.
The only other issue we had was with the level of cleanliness. The apartment was briefly serviced each day (rubbish removed, towels changed and beds made) but no effort was made to clean. In fact the floor was already pretty dirty when we arrived and only got worse over the course of the week. A quick whizz around with a vacuum would have made a world of difference.
All in all a very good option in the centre of town and for 4 people it works out at a pretty reasonable cost.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us.
The apartments at Salamanca are certainly right in the middle of a vibrant precinct with lots of restaurants, shops and, of course, the famous market on Saturdays. Good to read that those historic buildings are still able to keep any noise at bay!
Your feedback on the extensive use of glass walls in the apartment warrants some further investigation into the possibility of thicker curtains in the apartments.
We do take the cleanliness of the apartments very seriously and work hard to maintain a very high level of cleanliness throughout all of our apartments. The service we provide daily is a light service (towel change, beds made, rubbish removed) but if you were not happy with the state of the floors on arrival a quick call to reception would have ensured they were re-mopped for you straight away. We welcome the opportunity to amend issues for guests if they arise during a stay.
