“Yes, it's cold, but it's a mountain!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

Remember to go up there on a sunny day to take in the view and avoid the acrtic-like winds. During summer it's a lovely scenic drive and the view is spectacular. During the snowy season there's plenty of room to find snow and ice to play with. But do avoid going up there in the rain, if it's very cold or there's a lot of cloud. Like all mountains, the summit can be MUCH colder than on the ground and be subject to extreme weather changes, so always bring a coat, just in case.
There are plenty of picnic spots, walking tracks, BBQ areas, huts and look outs. And warm public toilets on the summit!

Best to go up on a sunny day in summer or winter.

“Worth the slog on a fine day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

It's a smart 90 minute march to the top from the chalet about half way down and we would recommend this route which winds through light forest under the crags before ascending to the peak.
On a fine day the views are expansive but do be wary of the very high winds which whip across the summit. They are strong and cold. Come with at least two extra layers to wear on the top even if it's a sunny day.

“10 minutes to snow!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

Just a short jaunt from Hobart's city centre and we were half way up Mount Wellington amongst the snow. Brilliant. But be so very wary of the time of day during winter - Black Ice is wicked.

“If you are fit this is a great jaunt!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

Worth the energy required to climb this steep incline. Fantastic views. Be prepared though it can be very cold at top and can also have a completely different climate. Be prepared with food and drink, wet weather gear etc.
