“Mount Wellington.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

A very pretty ride to the summit with unsurpassed views of Hobart and surrounds at the end. Well worth a visit but take something warm to put on as even in the summer it can be very cold and windy, but dont let that put you off. Dont forget that camera.

“"The Mountain"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

Folks in the greater Hobart area refer to Mt Wellington simply as "The Mountain". It soars above the city, acting as a mecca for recreation and sight-seeing. As yet uncluttered by a cable car (keep your fingers crossed that one is never built), the summit affords uninterrupted 360 degree views into the southwest, the Huon Valley, across Bruny Island, Tasman Peninsula and so on, with Hobart spread below you on a plate.
A fantastic network of hiking trails means that you can choose an easy walk through prehistoric manferns on the lower slopes at Ferntree or a very extended and strenuous loop to the top and back. There's a growing number of trails for mountain biking and the Organ Pipes are frequented by rock climbers. (You can pause to watch them playing their vertical games as you stroll along the Organ Pipes track, part the loop from the Springs that constitutes one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks).
At this stage, no food outlets exist above Ferntree, so if you want to have a picnic at the top make sure you bring your own provisions. It's always a good idea to bring warm clothes with you. The temperature at the top is normally about 10 degrees cooler than at sea level, and this is increased significantly if there is any amount of wind blowing.

“Always the best experience!”

The views are amazing and well worth the drive up the mountain. Always take very warm clothes, the top of the mountain can be extremely cold and icy.

“The Mountain ... Hobart's Mount Wellington”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

The locals just call it "the mountain". It's the perfect backdrop to Hobart's historic seaport. Steep, narrow, circuitous road to the top or you can hike (many trails) or bike up. We're lazy and chose to drive. Views are fantastic looking down below at the city and the Derwent Estuary. Wear something warm...it's cold and windy up there.
