“Beautiful location would book the deluxe units though”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2012

Stayed here as part of a group and were in one of the standard 3 star units. I would recommend paying a bit extra and booking the deluxe units.
The unit we stayed in obviously had not been changed at all since it was built...so if you don't mind a unit that is 'aged' go for it!...also the decking are smaller and there is a difference in what is on it too.
Our unit was privately owned (not sure if all are) so it is obviously up to the owners if they put any money into giving it 'a breath of new life' or just want to keep it as it has been for the last few decades.
But the location is beautiful! You don't feel isolated as you can see Scamander further along the coast from the units/beach but you are well away from any bustling towns. A short stroll down to the beach and the pool is lovely (if you go on one of those rare Tassie summer days)!
The reception/restaurant are is nicely done and from what interaction I had with the staff they seemed friendly.
The resort is also well signed from the road.
Units are spaced apart but you are by no means isolated from the rest of them an because they are in rows you can very clearly see what is going on on your neighbours decking.

Dear 90basso,

Thank you for your review and you are correct with stating that the unit you stayed in is privately owned.

We have 27 villas and 2 lodges and 9 villas are privately owned. We are in the process of renovating the last two villas that we own to a deluxe 4 star standard.

Although a couple of the private villas may be a little tired, we absolutely make sure that they are clean and comfortable.

Warm regards,

Lisieux Afeaki

We have stayed at the resort for a number of years now and it continues to be a great experience. This year was the first year that we actually had fantastic weather and could take full advantage of what the resort has on offer. It was pleasing to see the progress of the renovations. The pool area is AMAZING and heated to 28oC!!! Despite the renovations, the resort is very cost affordable and great value for money. We're hoping that the resort continues to expand; the boat ramp is in need of a lot of work. We have to take the boat to Bicheno (30 mins away). Apart from the Mosquitos, our stay continues to be a pleasurable experience.

Thank you so much for your review and we certainly look forward to welcoming you back.

Just prior to Easter this year we have just spent a considerable amount of money and effort to improve the boat ramp. This should alleviate the need for you to drive to Bicheno for your next stay.

The pool has been very popular this season and continues to attract early morning swimmers, even as the weather gets chillier! We are waiting for the pool cover to be completed. This will ensure that as the pool is heated at night, it will maintain a certain amount of warmth during the day.

We are constantly looking at continual improvement and certainly appreciate our guest feedback.

we stayed here for 5 nights with our 18 month old. We were in one of the 3.5 star cabins which we were told was due for total renovation after the peak season.

The location is beautiful, our cabin had a stunning view from the balcony over the beach & towards the pool. The café food is excellent, as are the childrens play areas & pool.

Our only complaints are small ones & i think will be fixed with the renovation - TV reception is bad (we took DVDs with us) kitchen equipment is lacking a little (no knives sharp enough to cut a steak or fresh bread)

overall a great place for a family holiday - we would definately stay again.

We stayed over new years 2011 at the lodge and had a great time. We were with a very large group and found the resort clean, tidy and functional. The pool had only been completed and opened a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. Warm, clean and in a great spot

We had our Wedding and Reception at White Sands and it was amazing. Of course it was the best day of our lives. The staff are excellent and the day was perfect. The sun was shining and the 180 degree views of the spectacular coast, beautiful facilities with the full glass enclosed restaurant and its wrap around decks was not only spectacular but afforded amazing photos

We cannot thank the staff enough for their amazing attention to every detail even those we had not thought of ourselves. Every facility was at our disposal for photos, including the brewery, bars, decks, grounds, lobby and even had photos with me (the bride) sitting on the beautiful cream baby grand piano.

As we live in Brisbane and had never been to Tasmania there was a lot of phone calls and internet searching.for facilities and arrangements to make. White Sands Resort and our celebrant Peter Power were incredibly helpful and the best choices we could have made.

We have no hesitation in recommending White Sands Resort for your special day. Do yourself a favour and check them out. There isn't a lot of info for weddings on their website so give Amy a call she was outstanding- if you only have half the day we had it would still be excellent.

We (my partner and his parents) came here after leaving Tidal waters due to terrible value for money. We found it great value for money, we had beautiful views from our decking, a lovely white beach 1 minute walk from our cabin. The cabins were clean, comfortable and spacious with everything that is required and a lovely large decking area.
We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay and we found the food delicious. On the first night we had accidentally arrived too late and the kitchens were closing but the lovely lady behind the bar managed to persuade them to make a meal for each of us which was very good. The guys enjoyed sampling the beer from the resorts own brewery
The resort is still developing (they are building a large pool at the moment) and when completed it has the potential to be excellent holiday accomodation for the family. I would happily stay here again and the location is great as it is half way between the beautiful bay of fires and wine glass bay.
