“Ignore the corrugated road and keep driving to Cape Borda Lighthouse...”
Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

After a rough ride on the very corrugated road we arrived at what seemed like the edge of the earth. It was barron ground with limestone edging and not a sole around.. The late afternoon sun was glistening on the wild ocean and the bright light on this peculiar square lighthouse. We said G'day to Mick but we were too late for the lighthouse tour. Lots of history. Include a visit if you have the time..

“Great tour, knowledgable guide”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

We visted the area back in February, and unfortunately our timeline didn't match that of the lighthouse tour schedule. Fortunately another party were also asking the same thing and Trevor ended up doing an earlier tour for us all!

And what a tour it was, he was very keen to impart his knowledge on all, questions were happily answered and overall we enjoyed it immensly. Thanks!

The road was a little rough, but it was all worth it. The fee was included in our pass.

“6,7, or 10 stars!!!!”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Park Ranger / 'lighthouse keeper' Mick's tour commentary just keeps getting better and better! Still chuckling the next morning at work about memorable guiding and fun facts we heard about at Cape Borda... still lingers like a good movie the next day. I think the guides read old journals from the early lighthouse days, which makes for fascinating insight into life out there on the edge of KI. I love lighthouses and the sea, so the materials in both the reading room and the little shop entice me. Mick engaged the kids who were on the tour, who were a little in awe of the fast-talking guy in uniform I think. The cannon firing at the end of 12:30 tour is a bonus. My niece had a good cup of coffee. Wouldn't miss it on KI, plus we saw an echidna on the side of the road on way back along the north coast!

“Treasure at the end of a rough road!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

After a bumpy drive in, we had a very informative session with Trevor & Mick, seeing the artifacts and hearing the history of the short square lighthouse, a chance meeting with a resident writer, photographing the views from the lookout of high cliffs, enjoying the yarns of the early days, verifying history at the local cemetry, and experiencing the firing of the canon at 1 pm. Wow! Thanks to the very enthusiastic and friendly staff for an enjoyable experience of Kangaroo Island!

“Best lighthouse tour!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Cape Borda lighthouse is very short and square but we had a very informative lighthouse tour which went well above some lighthouse facts. The guide took time to explain the use of a sextant, old shipping routes, locations of nearby lighthouses, history of Cape Borda, etc etc etc. A big Thank You for giving us the feeling that the money was well spent.
