“Stunning place, unforgettable!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2014

We stayed at Waves and Wildlife in February 2013 and I still remember it fondly as one of our most memorable holidays ever. Comfortable cottage with an amazing view, cleverly arranged such that one isn't really aware of the adjacent cottages (which are far enough away to ensure peace anyway) and the evening visits from hundreds of kangaroos silhouetted against the beach sunset are an unbeatable combination. We will definitely return!
Hosts Paul and Katja were really helpful. Do visit their zany wildlife park nearby too!
Good location for exploring the island, or for simply staying put or walking to the great beach nearby.

We stayed for 2 nights at Waves and Wildlife Cottages. The multitude of kangaroos that came to our balcony as we were having drinks and snacks while watching the sunset were a bit disappointed we didn't share with them. We had a lovely walk on Stokes Bay Beach - not another person to be seen.
The cabin was clean and comfortable and we wish we could have stayed longer. Next time we will.

Room Tip: Cottage 6 was perfect for us.

Wonderful place, in fact one of my favorite places I've ever stayed. For us waves and wildlife was a perfect fit. Very nice cottages that were very comfortable with porches overlooking a field covered with kangaroos every morning and evening just grazing in the foreground with cliffs down to the ocean behind them. where do you get to see that? Sure, there's not a lot of restaurants or the like close by, but that just adds to the feeling of being out in a beautiful and very unique part of nature. We really hardly even noticed the other cabins with the way they're laid out. As people have noted the beach is beautiful, and certainly worth making the walk through the boulders to get there. Also, be sure to look carefully in the eucalypt trees on both sides of the road just to the west of the entrance (where the pavement begins and before the turn to the beach) - these trees that are within a few hundred meters of the cabins and we saw koalas there every day of our stay (although it did take sometimes take some looking). The walk by the visitors center at Flinders Chase national park was also a great place to see koalas - although they're really all over the place if you take the time to look and once you recognize the right kind of trees to look in.
Aa other general tips - be sure to do Paul's Place (run by the owners of the cabins, who are wonderful folks by the way) - a wonderful and incredibly unique experience and be sure to watch the sides of the road while driving around the island for echidnas (as well as to avoid help avoid hitting the kangaros and wallabies that are all over). Kangaroo island is an incredible place for wildlife - in addition to kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and echidnas, we saw possums, Australian sea lions, New Zealand fur seals, tons of birds and fairy penguins. Granted we covered quite a bit of ground, but this was all in just 3 nights on KI. Our only complaint was that we wished we'd been able to spend more time there. Without a doubt this waves and wildlife is where we would stay again if we are lucky enough to return to kangaroo island some day. Thanks so much Paul and Katja!

Room Tip: All seem to have the same wonderful view and location

We stayed for six days at waves and wildlife cottages. Our kids (4 and 2) absolutely loved the experience. The cottage is close to the beach as well as to the homes of Kangaroos. Every evenings, we will have a bottle of wine and watch the kangaroos nearby. It's very surreal. The beach nearby is very beautiful as well. Going through a rock tunnel, you will reach the white sand beach. It's very peaceful. We strongly recommend the cottage for a stay on KI, best to stay there for a few days at least to give yourselves time to explore the island.

Easter break (4 nights) in Cottage 7. What an Amazing place to relax and enjoy the beautiful island. Yes it is not 5 star luxuries but a very clean and comfortable self-contained cottage with an uninterrupted ocean view and native Kangaroos grazing in your front and back yards. Easy-going “Hosts” Paul and Katya are so accommodating and welcoming (true example of the local spirit) we didn’t want to leave the island. What a beautiful Pace with beautiful people “WE WILL BE BACK”

I recently travelled to KI with a friend and we found Waves and Wildlife cottage to be the perfect place for our 4 night stay. Really enjoyed being able to come back to the cottage in the afternoon and sit out on the balcony with a beautiful and unique view of the ocean and kangaroos grazing right at our door step. The beach at Stokes Bay is beautiful and the little cafe is a handy option for a quick lunch. The owners are lovely and laid back which made the stay even more enjoyable. I would recommend Waves and Wildlife to anyone visiting the Island!

Stayed in Cottage 1 with a friend for four nights - fully self contained, clean and comfortable, fabulous view, beautiful location and very reasonably priced. Paul and Katya made everything so easy - all in all would recommend to anyone! Stokes Bay is a beautiful part of the island - there is a cafe during the day and not much else. Home by dusk to avoid driving at night on the island with so many animals around, but with a BBQ, balcony and fully contained kitchen this was perfect!

Room Tip: We only had two people in Cottage One, but it had two double rooms and a single room so could have f...
