“Fantastic tour”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

This is a must visit in Coober Pedy. The tour starts with a cheesy but informative video of the history of opals in Australia which takes around 15 mins. Then our guide showed us the difference in opals and took us on a tour of the mine. Our guide was fabulous and gave us great insight into the way people live in Coober Pedy - which is really fascinating. She told us lots of stories of locals and the renovations they'd made on their dug out homes. It was a great tour and the shop has a great selection of opals. All the staff are really friendly, with lots of knowledge and no pressure to buy.

“Worth a look, surprising 'water' dinosaur history”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

This is a great place to visit, both for an interesting insight into mining and prehistoric 'water' dinosaur facts. The reason this place is called 'Umoona'

“Don't miss this museum”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

It's a very intersting museum and you learn a lot of Opals in this Mine & Museum. Also a nice shop with beautiful Opals is integrated.

We found the video very informative about opal mining and enjoyed the following tour, which answered a lot of our questions about living underground.
