“Great experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

We just had to stay in an underground hotel while in Coober Pedy and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was great, rooms were clean and well appointed and meals were very good. Service was excellent, with the manager taking a personal interest in the guests.

Had one night while driving through Coober Pedy.
Great hotel , friendly and helpful staff . Very clean.
Breakfast was good. Truly amazing the way the hotel is partly underground . Very interesting museum on under ground mining integrated with hotel. Kids will enjoy their stay.

We had 3 nights in an Underground Room which was large, clean and comfortable. The only complaint I would mention is they are very pricey. We managed a good last minute deal thru Wotif $485.50 for 3 nights with a nice bottle of red wine thrown in each night. The bathroom is OK but could use a makeover if they are going to charge the rates listed on their website.
They have an interesting underground museum and a great little coffee shop and upstairs they have a very fancy restaurant, Umberto's, that we didn't try.

Room Tip: Ask for an Underground room.

This was a very out of the ordinary experience, having a drink and playing pokies in an underground bar, very nice setting to relax in, had trouble with the staff,s accent but this was minor. Enjoyed ourselves very much and recommend the underground bar for a very different experience. Would like to come back in the future. Clean and comfortable.

Spent only 1 night there recently, and have no complaints. The room was clean. Dinner at Umberto's in the hotel was quite nice, and the breakfast in the hotel was more than adequate. Very interesting with the sealed sandstone walls. Not fancy. Can't comment on value as it was part of a prepaid tour. Had no significant contact with the staff.

For our first visit to Coober Pedy on our way to Alice Springs we decided to stay at an "above ground" motel. I picked the "most stars" but I think 4 stars to them means "stars in the sky" nothing to do with the hotel's cleanliness. We booked a room with a king bed. As soon as we opened the door the smell of mould wafted past our noses. The towels were tea towel size and the shower was so dirty it felt like we were walking on slime. A bit of Exit Mould wouldn't go astray. The restaurant was very ordinary for such an expensive price. $35 for a main course - it was barely edible. The breakfast dishes in the morning were filthy, as if they had never been cleaned properly. There were a lot of "locals" hanging around the hotel which made me feel a bit unsafe as most of them were drunk. On our way back we stayed at the Mud Hut Motel which was 100 times better and much cheaper.

Room Tip: a tip for a good room is find another motel.

If you are looking for something different, this is a must.even travelling to this hotel by plane is an experience and once you get there and have checked into your room, you still can't quite believe what you are experiencing.the sleep was amazing and even though we only stayed one night it's something that we will never forget.

Room Tip: Must stay in an underground room....all are fantastic
