Underground Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 4 Coober Pedy B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 26, 2010

We just stay a night in the Underground B&B, we should stay more such Ken and Ana are welcoming persons. First you find a good bottle of Australian wine in your underground bed room, white, cosy and quiet. When you take part to the breakfast or a lovely homemade dinner, you feel to be part of the family. We have shared the place with a very nice australian family and had a really warm evening discussing half French and English all together around few Australian beers, good wine and woodfire. Ken is a very helpfull man and has always good advices to visit surroudings. If you have time you should see the terrifc Breakaways and the so coloured Painted Desert with Ando Tours very well managed by Ken himself. Very sightseeing around the town also. So many things to see in a such magic place !! As someone already said before me : we could easily have stayed longer and would warmly recommend Ken and Ana and their wonderful environment they have created around their home. It is quite sure that if we have the opportunity to go back Australian we won't miss a visit to Ken and Ana home. No way ! Even if my husband is not better at English...

My husband and I weren't sure what to expect after reading the reviews for Coober Pedy ("the middle of nowhere" & "piles of rocks" etc.). We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Coober Pedy airport and Ken was there waiting for us with all of his knowledge about the area and a huge smile.

Ken and Ana have created a wonderful desert oasis in their underground bed and breakfast. It is extremely close to town and to all of the recommended restaurants and sites.

We stayed in room 1 (queen sized bed & ensuite). There is a huge common area including a TV room with plenty of movies, a full kitchen (stocked with cereals for breakfast, tea, milk and fruit). Both rooms and common areas were clean and nicely appointed. There is a fantastic covered BBQ area with a table and lounge chairs to relax and enjoy the breeze. On the edge of the property, one can find the scrap Ken brings back from his mine site for guests to noodle through. We found a lot of beautiful opal shards and one was big enough to cut and polish!

I highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Ken and Ana are incredibly friendly and helpful when it comes to planning activities for the day. They have their own tour company (Ando Tours) and Ken will bring you everywhere you need to go (see tours on their website) and is very knowledgeable about the area and about opal mining. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

we are a family of 5 from Hamilton Victoria, we wanted a different holiday so my Husband found Underground B&B in the middle of coober pedy. Have an interest in mining towns
we were keen to be there. We were greeted by Ken and Ana who were very friendly and accomodating, we have three kids under 11. nothing was a problem for Ken. The open spaces of the spa and relaxing area was wonderful . Kens guided tours of this interesting town were a hit with my husband and kids. Ken and Ana have some beautiful pieces of jewelery which I fell in love with. Thanks Ken and Ana , had a great comfortable stay at your underground abode. Will be back some day cheers

Words can't adequately describe Ken and Ana's underground B&B experience - you simply have to go and try if for yourself. When we booked, we expected to stay in an underground room. What we found when we arrived was a comfortable and elegantly decorated underground home. Then there was our wonderful hosts, Ken and Ana. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble. We felt like we had been friends for years. We look forward to going back again one day.

We had the double pleasure of staying with Ken and Ana as we stayed there for one night on the way to Kings Canyon and two nights on the way back to Sydney.

The welcome we received was as if we came back to visit soulful friends and the generosity of spirit and service are limitless with both Ana and Ken.

After all, Cooper Pede offers not just friendly atmosphere but also amazingly good restaurants both the Greek Restaurant as well as John's Pizza were very enjoyable.

To boot, Ken took us for a day trip in his comfortable four wheel drive Nissan - Ken took us to a special place when the flooded road opened to Lake Eyre in October 2010. I am not able to reveal the secret lake which Ken took us too, however it was even better than Lake Eyre as it was filled with black swans, pelicans and wild ducks even plewas (sic).

I certainly handed the business card for this amazing place on the outskirts of Cooper Pede to our friends as not only the accomodation was great but the colouful characters who run the bed and brekfast are just to be around.

Enjoy!!!!

Stayed 3 nights at this awsome underground B&B Ken the owner picked us up from the airport and from then nothing was a drama. The rooms are nice and cool 20c all year around. Great BBQ area looking out to the outback!! Ken and Anna also do tours so we did a 5 hour tour of the town and beyond which was breathtaking. My boy loved the moon rocks! It was very handy staying with people that have been in the area for over 30 years as they know where to go and what to see. They also took us to see mining in action, a high light of the trip. We will be back!!

This place is roomy, well appointed, well located and is like going home to visit long time friends. Ken and Anna make their guests feel very welcome and will stop at nothing to make sure your stay is memorable. We had two friends from Wisconsin USA travel with us and they were amazed at how welcome they were made to feel. The Underground is very well appointed with three bedrooms and large living areas. You have access to the ground level BBQ and spa and has everything a traveller would need. The place was very quiet and well located just on the edge of the town. We would certainly recommend this accommodation to any visitor.
