Great mine, super nice to have the self guided audio tour. Great for families and also for people traveling alone. Great prizes for jewellery.

“Opal fever to be caught here !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

We took the self-guided tour, which gave us really good insights into what people will do to get at the riches of the underground (including living underground) ! Hard hats are really needed: we hit our head on the ceiling a few times during the visit. Remember to bend your knees when asked to.
The shop has something for all tastes and wallets and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

“Really cool to see how they lived underground”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013

There is so much information about how they use to mine opals in the old days they lived underground to keep out of the sun. It is set up so you can actually see the different rooms and all the equipment that they use to use too. It was just a really fun stop on our way to Adelaide from Alice. There are lots of opal shops in town and they have the best opals in the world ones that most Americans never see. We only know the white milky boring ones. Oh no not here there are some really colorful ones full of fire. The prices are really good as well.

“A great insight into early opal mining”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

Lots of interesting information and a good experience of what opal mining was like in the early days. The self - guided tour was ideal as it allows you to go at your own pace and concentrate on the aspects that most interest you. Although the mine is absolutely authentic, I felt that the manequins or dummies used in the mine to illustrate various activities were in some cases a bit unnecessary and some were in poor repair. A little maintenance here would improve the experience. Overall though, well worth the visit.
