The motel and the rooms are just beautiful, clean and worth each buck you pay there. It's very familiar and you will get any help you need.

The Queensland coast was still recovering from floods and the adverts on NZ TV were recommending SA. Glad we made the choice to change our usual travel habits to Aust. We had no idea what to expect at Coober Pedy which was on recommendations from friends. Glad we did and glad we decided on 3 days making Lookout Cave our base.Fabulous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Tariff good, our underground unit was very comfortable and cozy and the new refurnishings are looking great. Our 4500 kms of SA was one of our best holidays ever and we have done most of Asia and many parts of Aust .Our accommodation everywhere was very good. Friendly folk everywhere. Roads all over SA of a high standard.I love those small bakeries you came across in small villages. Australian home made pies are to die for.We shall be back.

We (my husband and I) had a 1 night stay here as part of a self driving trip to Lake Eyre. We arrived in Coober Pedy early afternoon on a cold and wet day, to find our regular accommodation (and almost everywhere else!) full. The greeting I received as I entered the reception area was as warm and as friendly as I could have asked for. At $120, I had no hesitation in accepting the room, sight unseen as we weren't going to find much else. Visible were about half a dozen rooms fronting onto the car park, but off to the side is a long passage down into the hill with a total of around 20 or so rooms. Ours was right at the end of this passage.
What a pleasant surprise! A decent sized room with enough space for two of us and our luggage, esky and groceries, queen sized bed which proved to be very comfortable, fridge & small TV, table & 2 chairs. The bathroom was small but quite adequate. Free wifi is available, but for some reason we were unable to connect, so made use of the guest computer in reception. Each room has an opening window onto the passageway which made the room quite noisy, but once closed we heard very little noise and had a good nights sleep.
There are a number of tables and chairs under the front verandah and we noticed a group out there cooking tea on their own portable stoves. There are some rooms with cooking facilities.
If in Coober Pedy again we would certainly stay here.

We were four couples on motorbikes. The Lookout Cave Motel is like the rest of Coober Pedy, a bit rough around the edges on top but warm and friendly underneath. Nick and his family couldn’t have been more welcoming. The rooms are tastefully decorated, some have windows to the outside, the others are completely underground - the difference suited all members of our group. In the outside bar-b-q area, where we ate our take-away dinner, we watched a movie from the drive-in down the hill! But by far the most outstanding feature was Nick and his wife who were friendly and very helpful, particularly by driving us to the shops and restaurants or with helpful recommendations.

The motel is located with 360 views over the town and diggings with views at both sunrise and sunset. The rooms are off a wide corridor, nothing cave like here!
The room was at a comfortable temperature because the motel is dug into the ground-no heating or cooling required during our stay.
The fridge did require defrosting and a compendium would have been helpful. Hair dryers were available at the front desk as were an iron and ironing board. Laundry facilities were available to guests- we were off early in the day. The machine was started and we left. Sami organized for the washing to be hung out on the line, and incredibly everything was neatly folded and on our bed-all for a small charge. Free access to a computer.
Nick and Sami were a mine of information as they are long time local residents although new to the motel business. Sami was very welcoming and met all requests happily. We were heading into remote country for a day trip into The Painted Desert off the Odonadatta Road and alerted her to our departure time and latest expected return time into Coober Pedy, which she noted down. We phoned in to alert Sami on our safe return into the town .
Nick showed us a great spot to photograph the mullock heaps as the sun was setting, which resulted in some fantastic pictures. Although we had our own car Nick even drove us there to make sure we would not get lost, He volunteered to take us to the local airport to catch our flight over Lake Eyre-all at no charge.

A well located motel, caring interested staff, great rates, wonderful service.

A wonderful underground but fresh-air stay in the desert.
New owners since Dec 10, a greek familiy of Cooper Pedy with a former miner, who knows everything about opals. Everything nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Free coffee/tea and WiFi. Shaded parking! New Barbecue area with magnificent view of the sundown. Highly recommended place to stay!!!
