“Perfect for young families”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We stayed for three nights and were amazed by the value for money. The spacious dugout accommodation gave us a definitive underground holiday experience, with privacy, peace and facilities that made us feel very comfortable.

If you fancy a BBQ, want to watch DVDs, browse the web with WiFi or just stretch out on the sofas, it's all here!
The hosts Rosaleigh and Alex are terrific and are very helpful.

Make a booking if you can!

Loved our 1 night stay here. It was perfect! Everything was very clean and all the small touches added to the magic. It was great sitting out eating dinner on the outdoor setting and the enjoying a dip in the pool. The complimentary wine and choccies also went down well. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Coober Pedy.

Beautiful, clean with lots of little thoughtful touches such as laundry detergent. Warm and relaxed welcome. There is only one apartment on site, but it is very well maintained. Sleeping underground was easy, cool and quiet. I would recommend down to Erth whole heartedly.

What a fabulous place!! Rose and Alex are wonderful hosts and everything about the experience was great. They made us feel very welcome and a bottle of wine and chocolates greeted us on arrival. Breakfast was scrumptious.
My partner was totally enthralled with the peace and quiet and how serene it was. The B&B was extremely well set out and very comfortable. We would recommend to everyone to experience this wonderful home away from home .

This B&B is marvelous. The owners, Rose and Alex, are the kindest, most caring hosts you could imagine, and the quality of the apartment is superb.

The apartment has its own above ground swimming pool, its own wood-fired barbecue (there is also a gas barbecue if you prefer) and a separate entrance, making it easy to come and go as you wish. Inside the apartment, the bathroom has a nice sized bath and, joy of joys, a washing machine, and a clothes line (outside, so you benefit from the dryness) capable of holding a full load of washing and more. Even washing powder is supplied.

Down the stairs is the kitchenette and slightly further down, the lounge and two bedrooms (a master bedroom with a double bed, and a second bedroom with 2 single bunks). The lounge is equipped with a flat screen TV, a music system and a DVD player. There are a collection of movies that were filmed in part at Coober Pedy, such as Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The breakfast provisions that are provided (bread, raisin bread, spreads, Rose's homemade jams, cereals, yoghurt, fruit compote, filter coffee, tea, orange juice and milk) are ample, and Rose is happy to refill if needed. The home-made fruit compote in particular is delicious, and Rose was happy to share the recipe with us.

There are a couple of things to note. Firstly, the hotel is a few km out of the town, so you really need your own transport. Secondly, having the bathroom upstairs with the bedroom 9 stairs down is a bit of a nuisance, but it seems to be a consequence of a dugout home (the bathroom is above ground at the entrance to connect to the sewerage system) and the bedroom is at the back for maximum underground effect.

I was looking for something with a "Wow" factor for my cousin & her husband who were visiting from England. As Coober Pedy was on our itinerary i had looked up accomadation on the internet & found Down to Erth. From the first contact I made with Rose, nothing was too much trouble.
My wife & I had been able to keep it a secret from my cousin & her husband. The welcome we received from Rose & Alex & the attention to detail & the comfort of the accomodation had my cousin & her husband amazed.
The wood BBQ was a delight to use & sit in front of enjoying our complementary bottle of wine as the stars came out. Breakfast was great & Rose I forgot to ask where do you get the preserved fruit from?
This was one night that all of us will remember.

Thank you Rose and Alex for welcoming and hosting our family on two occasions within 2 weeks. Karen and I enjoyed the thoughtful little extras you provided. Our two sons were very impressed with underground living and want to return! Thanks also for your great insights into the local area and the knowledge you shared with us.
You are and will be our No.1 choice for accommodation on any trip to Coober Pedy. Accolades from fellow travellers are well deserved!
Thanks again Mike, Karen, Stefan and Martin
