“Comfortable well located hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2006

Stayed here in March 2006. Reasonably priced and well located more or less in the city centre. Slightly old fashioned rooms but still comfortable with all the facilities expected of this class of hotel.A plus was the fact the hotel has a coin operated laundry for the use of guests which was a bonus as we were on an eight week trip. Good value for money.

This is a small, well run hotel with professional and friendly staff. Whilst smack in the middle of the city on a busy street, the windows are double glazed so absolute;y NO noise from the outside (and my room overlooked a bus-stop). It's just over a block to the Rundle Mall and really easy to walk to all major city locations whether you are a tourist or on business. There are many cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area.

My room was smallish (bit ok), nicely furnished and complete with microwave and coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom was also small but well equipped with shower over the bath, marble bench, decent hairdryer and some toiletries.

The only real negative was the pillows which I describe as "third world hotel" pillows. Flat as a board, hard and not the slightest bit fluffy - the sort that you discover has made your head hurt when you wake up. C'mon guys, this Adelaide, not Da Nang! There were no spare pillows or blankets in the cupboard.

Breakfast was average standard for a buffet.

Note, if you have a car, this hotel is not for you as there is no parking.

Despite the pillows, I'd definitely stay again!

We spent 2 weekend nights at this lovely hotel in central Adelaide in mid-March. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and well furnished. The bathroom was also large with lots of big, fluffy towels. There was also a minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, clock radio. A morning newspaper was delivered to the door. There is a decent size pool and an exercise room in the basement. Both looked clean and attractive. An internet connection is available in the lobby for guests.

The property is called a “boutique” hotel in one of the ads we saw. It seems to cater to business people during the week. We reserved our room a day before our arrival. We tried to book through the hotel website but when we couldn’t complete the transaction, we called the chain’s 800 number and we’re given the internet rate of A$149 per night. At the end of our first day, we realized we wanted to stay an extra day but the hotel was booked, so the desk clerk called a nearby hotel and was able to get us a room at the Stamford Plaza, a larger, excellent hotel on North Terrace, for the same rate.

BTW, Adelaide is a lovely city, very walkable and filled with things to see and do. Most of the museums, galleries, etc. are conveniently located on North Terrace. There’s a fun Central Market and lots of upscale stores for shopping. It is also a gateway city to the Barossa region, Clare Valley, Kangaroo Island (great day trip – Sealink operates a very nice tour which includes hotel pickup and return, the ferry and bus tour of the island with stops at major points of interest plus an ample barbecue lunch) and the Fleuieru Peninsula. The Great Ocean Road, from Adelaide to Melbourne is a beautiful drive which can be done in a day if you are pressed for time.

This Hotel was well run by enthusiastic staff. It is centrally located within walking distance of the central city.

However if you have a car while in Adelaide this is not a convenient place to stay. The Hotel has NO PARKING, they do assist with the cost but it still costs $10 each time you remove your car and its a 20 minute ordeal each time you come or go. I have suggested a valet service would be a good idea!

Stayed here in Nov 2005. Was upgraded for free to the executive suite which included sitting room and separate bedroom fitted with two double beds. Large bathroom. Free broadband internet in room. Only strange thing was the large spa-tub located in the livingroom area. Very helpful staff in booking tours for us. I would recommend this hotel to others and would opt to stay there again.

Rooms excellant with a great breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful - ask them something and they know the answer. I would suggest this Hotel to anyone visiting Adelaide. I will be back sometime.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2004

I stayed here on October 14th 2004. I arrived at the hotel just after 5pm and was greeted at reception by a very nice and helpful guy (whose name I can't remember).

I was given room #202 which is a corner room overlooking Currie Street. This was a quite a large room with a king-sized bed, arm chair (near the window), remote control TV, clock/radio, telephone, tea/coffee facilities, mini fridge, microwave, small table with 2 chairs, internet access.

The bathroom was a decent size with the shower over the good-sized bath, but there was no exhaust fan to get rid of the steam. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The decor was quite nice although I didn't like the color of the bathroom.

There is a cafe/restaurant on the ground floor near reception that seems to have a reasonable range of food for seemingly reasonable prices. However, if you want to order something through the 24 hour room service, you get charged AU$4.00 per tray. I didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't tell you what the food was like.

I had a pretty good night's sleep although I found the pillows to be a little firmer than I'd like. The curtains over the window didn't close properly so some light from the building across the street shone through into the room. The only time I heard any major traffic noise was from about 6.30am onwards. There was a bus stop right underneath my window so the bus noise may be a problem for some. If you are easily affected by traffic noise, perhaps request a room not overlooking Currie Street.

Paul, the general manager (very nice guy), did the check out procedure the following morning. This process was hassle free and I was away in less than 5 minutes.

The entrance to this hotel is not on Currie Street. You need to go down the side street next to the hotel to get to the entrance. Also, the doors are locked at 11pm each night, and you need your room card/key to get back into the hotel otherwise you can use the intercom and be let in that way.

I really liked this property. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was excellent and location was perfect. I'll definitely stay here again.

FRIENDLY TIP: go to the convenience store just down the street from the hotel and buy a large bottle of spring water to use for making tea and coffee in the hotel room (Adelaide tap water is absolutely horrendous).
