“good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2012

Great location, close to shopping, eating out, Adelaide oval and entertainment venues. Easy walking distances.
Easy to catch tram to Glenelg for beach, more sight seeing ,shopping and resturaunts.
Rooms are nice very clean if a bit old now. Comfy beds, good showers with big soft towels.
Air conditioning works a treat and new TV with digital stations was a good size, also didnt notice any noise from outside at all :)
Staff pleasant and all smiling (to me that means a happy workplace !) Pool and spa (spotlessly clean) are hidden in the basement with a small gym next door. First time we stayed we were upgraded to a spa room which was a great surprise (hence I didnt see the pool/spa area) ,this time I called for their best rate and was happy with price and room which was ok for the one night stay but would prefer something bigger if staying longer.

Room Tip: Spa rooms are a lot roomier

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel and found staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was big and very clean. Our only negative thoughts on the experience would be that the hotel could do with an update. The restaurant was very uninviting, dark with drab decor. We never saw more than one table occupied for evening dinner which reflected the ambiance of the restaurant. Continental breakfast was basic but we found adequate. It was functional for an overnight stay but not for a mini holiday.

Staff - fantastic
Room - I hap a top floor room with raked ceilings a little like an attic, small window felt a little clostraphopic. Room was in great condition and clean with a spacious bathroom and comfortable bed - but ther was some strange vibrations happening? TV was still of an older CRT typew and did not offer any of the DTV stations but had some bsic Foxtel stations. No WiFi and pay for broadband - Really In this day and age when Maccas has free WiFi, Hotels still fell the need to fleece their patrons-I don't get it!
Location - Perfect 100m from the Rundell St. Mall.

Room Tip: Don't get a top floor room (6th) window is too small and low ceilings. Stange Vibrations happeni...

Grand Chancellor on Currie was ideal for our four day stay in June 2011. Finding a quiet place was particularly important to us as we were staying four nights in Adelaide, including a Friday and Saturday night, and are light sleepers. So we asked for a quiet room when we booked and were delighted when that is what we got. Our third-floor room overlooked an internal courtyard area and we didn't hear a sound from outside. Wonderful! The only sound we did hear in the night was an occasional whooshing sound which we eventually worked out was the plumbing, but we got used to it. Not only was our room quiet, it was also roomy, comfortable, clean, and within very easy walking distance of all the central Adelaide attractions we wanted to see.

A word of caution: DO NOT confuse Grand Chancellor on Currie with Grand Chancellor on Hindley! Returning from a bus tour of Kangaroo Island on the Saturday evening, we were almost the last to be dropped off at our hotel and so witnessed Hindley Street at its worst, or best, depending on your point of view. Crowds of people wandering along the footpaths and sitting outside bars, bouncers at regular intervals along both sides of the street, buskers... we were blown away by the noise and counted our lucky stars we had picked a quiet place to stay. What we didn’t realize, until we stopped to let some people off and the door opened, was how sound-proof the bus was. The blast of noise that came through the open door was jaw-dropping. I felt sorry for the older couple behind us, one of whom remarked as they got up and prepared to exit the bus: "Back to that ##### Grand Chancellor [on Hindley]!"

If we ever go back to Adelaide, which I hope we do, we will certainly stay at the Grand Chancellor on Currie. By the way, we enjoyed the pancakes at the 24-hour pancake parlour just around the corner.

Few hotels give business travellers the space, light and comfort needed to work in your room. This is the exception.
My corner room, 1020, was exceptional. A huge desk, natural light and overhead ceiling lights, proper desk chair and easy to reach plug connection. Only shortcoming is there's no room wifi (although it is in the bar downstairs) and there is a fee based cable connection.
Otherwise this room is very large and elegant, the bathroom is huge and has a proper bath and seep rate shower. Breakfast buffet acceptable, staff very friendly.

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Adelaide and the Barossa Valley. The hotel is a short walk into town. Our room was dated but clean and well kept. The staff at the front desk was very helpful in providing directions, recommendations and helping us to co-ordinate with our party also staying in the hotel. The room was spacious for 2 people and had everything we needed for our stay, even a few free cookies :)
