We stayed at BackPack Oz for 2 nights initially then returning for another 5 nights. We had a double room each stay in the main hostel not the guesthouse. This is the best hostel we've stayed in on our trip around the whole of Australia (unfortunately no pool though).

Our room was clean with loads of space and a clothes rack and shelves. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly and the kitchen is extremely regularly (the cleanest we've seen). There is free breakfast every morning with a good choice of toast toppings and cereal. Free tea and coffee all day, there is a free bbq on a wednesday which is fantastic with lots of grub for all. There is a small bar with happy hour each night with the beers on offer changing.

There was a nice vibe to the place, they seem to have a 2 week maximum stay policy which in experience makes for a better atmosphere for actual 'travellers'.

The staff are all very helpful and friendly and they offer a shuttle service to the train station when checking out, also free luggage storage.

Overall we had a great stay and no complaints which is extremely rare as a lot of hostels in Australia are terrible. It was the cleanliness that was much appreciated as so many hostels you go to you would rather stay dirty than use their showers and go out for food because the kitchens are vile!.

Room Tip: All round great hostel!

We stayed 4 nights, 1 in main hostel 3 in guest house which is a bit more expensive and much quieter there was no room in main hostel. Free breakfast, free wifi and free evening meal on Wednesdays, plus fun evenings made this hostel a good choice staff couldn't be more helpful

My partner and I stayed here at the beginning of march. We had a double room which had a bunk bed in it ( a double bed on the bottom) a sink and a few bits of shelving. The room was clean. There was enough toilets/ showers to accomadate the people. There was free breakfast each morning but we found the situation a little uncomfortable so we didn't bother with this. It was an ok place to stop off.

We stayed in the guesthouse across from Backpack Oz, not sure how big their standard double rooms are but ours had a set of bunks in it as well as a queen bed and it was huge!
Ample bathroom and kitchen facilities which were clean, the only thing I didn't like was the location as the traffic was noisy but all in all a pleasant stay!

Really nice hostel. Rooms were okay, beds were fine...hostel is near a busy street though so noise in the morning should be expected! Unfortunately the room I was in was near the crossing so could hear the crossing beepers all night!!
Atmosphere was really good here...easy to talk to people, I liked how the common areas were set up! Kitchen was always clean with everyone adhering to the 'clean up after yourself' rule which is a bonus!!
Free breakfast each morning (get in early before the bread goes!) and apparently free BbQ on Wednesdays which I sadly missed.
Location is good...10 minute walk to CBD

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms Are better...there in one off the common area which I imagine gets the evening noise and one called the cave which I dread to think! W
