Hello people,

Me (34) and my girlfriend (24) were staying at the backpackers Inn in Adelaide, which is only 5-10 minutes walk from the city centre. The room we had was clean and had a nice bed. Above everything was the friendly staff, who explained us a lot, arranged a cheaper booking to Kangaroo Island and who also had a friend (Tom) who drove us to Apollo campervan hire by his own car...now that was a piece of pure Australian mentality that you do not get everywhere. So we do recommend Backpackers Inn Adelaide!

I took 2 nights in this hostel because they had some deal with traveling to Kangaroo island, what was my main point. I knew, that it will be nothing special, because it was very cheep plus I have read few reviews before I decided. But I was thinking, that I will survive, it is just for 2 nights.

It was just terrible. First of all, kitchen! disaster! No one clean after himself. Everything was dirty especially for such a small place what they call kitchen. There are few common places in hostel, but if you say one single word, every room can hear you. All walls were like from paper. Unfortunately, I had to spend my first night in room right next to entrance to terrace, Omg...I hear every single step, music, talking, opening balcony...which of course was not quiet at all. people were going to smoke all the time, screaming, phoning, turning on the music...whole night.

Rooms were stinky and small. But the worst was really annoying noise everywhere around you. The only little bit positive was that the receptionists were nice.

If you think about going to this accom, pleas do yourself a favor and choose another backpacker. Seriously.

I have stayed at a lot of places and know that it isn't the place that has the problem. I have stayed at the travellers Inn over a long time on different occasions and have saw the best and worst. The staff and the owner Gary have all been fantastic. The area is perfect for everything....free bikes, free city bus, 10 minute walk to main city shopping, all festivals and events close by etc. The hostel itself has character...yes it's old, but if some of the people who have reviewed this place as poor, have never learnt the history of the place ???? When this place had decent backpackers staying who had respect, this place was tidy, enjoyable and homely. When this place got a bad run of idiot backpackers who didn't respect other guests, you got dirty kitchen, noisy balcony at nights etc no matter how much the place was cleaned or people was asked to lower the noise levels at night. Overall, this hostel is a great place to be if your a proper backpacker. Get a HOTEL if your not!!

First impressions were "it's a hostel" the bedroom (4 share) was small, the mattress felt like lots of metal bars prodding into me all night so I didn't get much sleep. The balcony area was a nice place to chill out but there were a lot of non residents and a couple resident making a stupid amount of noise. Gary was very friendly and said he'd address the situation, so that was a plus. Although the p,ace is run down at least there was evidence of decorating and people trying to clean all day. Generally not the worst but not the best. The kitchen was better than some and I did get chance to cook which made a change. Prices are reasonable so if you're looking for a cheap place, then stay here, but not room 8 on the top bunk on the left, cause you won't sleep very well! The best part of the stay was Gary's hospitality.

I really enjoyed my stay, thank you. Free bikes :-) I stayed for 4 nights extra as the staff helped me with things to do. The building is a bit old but seemed fresh and clean. The kitchen and hallway had just been painted with new lights, the smell was in my room a bit but it made it very nice. Lots of places to eat near by but a little expensive the pub accross the road was good value. I put a picture of the kitchen as other reviews complained about the kitchen

Room Tip: Room 2 was a nice and bright room but on the balcony so a little noisy

I've been staying in 5 other hostels in Adelaide and yes, this is one of the oldest and not the newest looking hostels but Adelaide Travellers Inn definitely has its pros! Dorms are mostly 4 bed dorms and rooms are quite basic but that's all you need when backpacking. Best thing about the hostel is definitely the atmosphere: I felt like home and never made more friends in any other places! I would definitely recommend this to my friends and I will definitely come back. And the staff is amazing, I've had some bad experiences in other hostels and nothing makes my day like a genuine smile and good customer service :)
About the location, Hutt St is in the CBD but as a street quieter, not a long walk to the main street though! IGA is almost next door and I loved the pubs close by, good meals.
Old and fancy people who are looking for 5 star hotels, don't bother!

Wi-Fi should be free of charge.

Room Tip: Rooms off the balcony, 21,20,19,16,15,14,12,11 or the motel rooms (more pricey)

We spent a week at this hostel during the Womadelaide Festival. It was a very good location and quiet at night but the place was dirty and oppressive. The kitchen and fridges were filthy with very litle cutlery and crockery available. We saw poor young travellers eating out of saucepans. This place certainly needs to lift its game. On a positive note the office staff and were friendly and helpful. There were also free bikes down below which was very handy. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
