“A very enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

I really enjoyed my stay, thank you. Free bikes :-) I stayed for 4 nights extra as the staff helped me with things to do. The building is a bit old but seemed fresh and clean. The kitchen and hallway had just been painted with new lights, the smell was in my room a bit but it made it very nice. Lots of places to eat near by but a little expensive the pub accross the road was good value. I put a picture of the kitchen as other reviews complained about the kitchen

Room Tip: Room 2 was a nice and bright room but on the balcony so a little noisy

I've been staying in 5 other hostels in Adelaide and yes, this is one of the oldest and not the newest looking hostels but Adelaide Travellers Inn definitely has its pros! Dorms are mostly 4 bed dorms and rooms are quite basic but that's all you need when backpacking. Best thing about the hostel is definitely the atmosphere: I felt like home and never made more friends in any other places! I would definitely recommend this to my friends and I will definitely come back. And the staff is amazing, I've had some bad experiences in other hostels and nothing makes my day like a genuine smile and good customer service :)
About the location, Hutt St is in the CBD but as a street quieter, not a long walk to the main street though! IGA is almost next door and I loved the pubs close by, good meals.
Old and fancy people who are looking for 5 star hotels, don't bother!

Wi-Fi should be free of charge.

Room Tip: Rooms off the balcony, 21,20,19,16,15,14,12,11 or the motel rooms (more pricey)

We spent a week at this hostel during the Womadelaide Festival. It was a very good location and quiet at night but the place was dirty and oppressive. The kitchen and fridges were filthy with very litle cutlery and crockery available. We saw poor young travellers eating out of saucepans. This place certainly needs to lift its game. On a positive note the office staff and were friendly and helpful. There were also free bikes down below which was very handy. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

My wife and I spent two nights here recently. We have travelled extensively in many countries and have stayed in hostels everywhere. While quality varies I can honestly say that this hostel is a strong contender for the worst one.

Our private room had a functioning air-conditioner and clean sheets but otherwise it was evident that the floors and furniture were not cleaned given the rubbish present. The common areas and bathrooms were in a poor to deplorable condition. There was no evidence of cleaning taking place, bathroom fixtures were loose, broken or leaking and toilets were without toilet paper for the duration of our stay.

The kitchen facilities were marginally better but very small given the size of the hostel.

According to signage, the balcony areas were purportedly not to be used or to be a quiet area after a certain time of night otherwise guests would be asked to leave. Many guests ignored this which was an issue as rooms were adjacent to the balcony. Hostel staff informed us that it would hopefully be quieter the following night but there was no suggestions that any action could be taken.

I would have provided some of this feedback directly to the hostel staff but no-one could be bothered manning the front desk when we left.

Try Backpack Oz instead; for the same price it is far, far better.

This is one of the worst backpacker i've ever been to. There is no air-conditioning, the rooms are very small so that there is not enough pace for the luggage and the whole building seems to be very old. The rooms, bathrooms and social areas arent clean at all. Another negative point is the very bad smell in the whole building. I wouldnt recommend this backpacker to anybody. Its not worth the price!

Rooms old and grotty. No air conditioning. Sheets appeared dirty. Doors constantly open, even if you locked them on the way out. Very short opening hours in reception - difficult to check in/out if trying to go on trips. Rooms cramped with no room for bags. Showers and toilets not clean.

Were to start, staff are rude and unpleasant. Room & bathrooms are dirty. Kitchen is tiny and under equipped. Hostle one of the worst backpacker experiences I have experience would avoid this place unless you have a burning desire to catch something from one of the filthy mattresses. Also allow werid old men in who constantly hit on young backpackers and refuse to throw them out.
