“Pleasant atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

We wandered down here from The Exeter when my friends and I had had enough of the racket, and were searching for a slightly quieter place for conversation. The Elephant is only two steps away, thank goodness.
The pub very cleverly separates the revelers from the chatters by placing the dance floor upstairs (also with a bar so people don't have to run up and down for drinks), which the downstairs is reserved for diners and drinkers, I suppose. There is also a large TV that only ever features some sports game or another.
There is a sort of a beer garden, which is nice to drink at in summer. The drinks are not too expensive during happy hour.

“Really enjoyable.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

Wandered in for a late lunch after visiting the Museum and found it a lovely place to be. All dark wood, booths and barflys, its small enough to give that cosy pub feel but large enough to not feel cramped. A big screen playing sport with a couple of comfy couches are thrown in for good measure. I had a chicken schnitzel for $12 which was ok but a tad overcooked. Hubby really enjoyed his $13 rump steak declaring it one of the best he's had. Given we recently ate at a dedicated steakhouse and left disappointed, its great to know good steak can be found at half the price. Saw a pluoghmans lunch being delivered and have my eye on that for next time. Just off Rundle St, next to the cinema, this is a great place for a relaxing afternoon meal.

“Great English Pub in an awesome location!”

Great English Pub in an awesome location with food that I would consider above average for a pub. The price of an Imperial pint of Aussie beer is 2nd to none and has a pretty relaxed atmosphere down stairs.

“Popular with all ages and cultures.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2012

On a recent night out to a French film festival, where else to eat but an English Pub! Surprised to find this 'Pub' was patroned on the night by retirees, francophiles and a group on a Bucks night out. Food was very good, from salmon to steaks. Many English ales on tap. Bookings absolutely essential. We'll be back, French films or not!
