Adelaide is a strange place. We drove from the Grampians - all 500km of the mostly straight road and were trying to drop our car at the airport. After one sign to the airport on the edge of town we never saw another! We ended up asking directions when we filled the car up with fuel - what is it with Oz and road signs?

The other odd thing about Adelaide is how the town is not making the best of itself. It has some areas of great charm, a fantastic Central Market with farmer and organic products and some lovely Victorian architecture - but most of the nicest buildings are run down and many occupied by adult shops or scruffy bars. With some thoughtful planning and restoration, the place could be great.

Anyway - the Sebel was a last minute booking when we changed our plans and was a good place to spend our final night in Australia. It is well situated in the centre of town and is apparently a reasonably new building. You wouldn't think so as it looks like an Art Deco hotel from the 1930s.

The room we had was excellent value for a two room spa suite - kitchen area, sitting room, big comfy bed and good sized bathroom with free standing shower and corner jacuzzi.

Downstairs there is a nice bar serving good, well priced snacks and light meals which seemed very popular with local business people. There is a main restaurant which we only used for breakfast - which was very good indeed.

All the staff were young and friendly, and mostly very efficient, especially given that there was a major conference on in town as well.

On leaving - a taxi was summoned quickly and we were on our way with a friendly good bye.

If you need to stay in Adelaide - try the Sebel - given the size of the Hyatt across the road you will get a much more personal service.

My husband and I stayed here as part of a round the world trip! We can't speak highly enough about the staff, and hotel. Especially Marco (Asst Manager?), Adam (Conscierge), and Robert (Restaurant Manager?). They made our stay extra special. Marco is a riot, very very funny, Robert was really helpful about our trip to Alice Springs and Uluru, and Adam was a font of information and a great hire car organiser!!
The room was lovely, clean, and the free room service fresh juice and coffee in the morning was a great way to wake up.
We'd recommend this hotel to anyone. It's also in a great position on North Terrace for the rail station (not Indian Pacific one), buses, and shops. We also found the hotel very quiet at night, and unusually for a non-smoking room nothing had even the lingering smell of smoke. The dressing gowns are lovely too!! Would definately stay there again if we get back to Adelaide.

The Sebel Playford was a perfectly pleasant hotel, staying in one of loft suites over two floors made the stay that bit more special (the decor is a little dated though). Good, but not great service was apparent throughout the stay.
Great breakfast was included in the rate, and Adelaide Railway Station (local services, not interstate) was pretty much opposite. Also nearby were the Casino, Rundle Mall, Festival Theatre, Adelaide Oval and the Botanic Gardens a nice walk down North Terrace.

Clearly, others have had not so positive experiences with this hotel... but we had wonderful time!

The location on this hotel is ideal, within walking distance of the free tourist bus and and the shopping at Rundall Mall.

I booked a package through the hotel website that didn't include breakfast. I'm not a huge fan of buffet breakfasts (too much temptation to over eat) so we walked to Rundall Mall to have breakfast on both mornings.

We had a suite on the fourth floor. Our room was lovely with a separate lounge area and a balcony that overlooked North Terrace and the Hyatt. The room was spotless and spacious. The bathroom was clean, very adequate, with plenty of room to move and included a spa bath.

We found the staff here very friendly and helpful. While the conceirge desk wasn't always attended, a staff member wasn't far away to assist you.

And the pool was closed, seemed strange in the middle of summer. We were offered the alternative to swim at the nearby Hyatt or Holiday Inn.

I can highly recommend a wonderful modern Australian restaurant within walking distance of the hotel 'Cos' at [--]. They are known for their high quality steak and caesar salads.

I would definately stay here again. I found the room rates to be much cheaper than other 5-star hotels in the Adelaide such as the Hilton or Hyatt.

Again another disappointment in Adelaide - tired, tired, tired. Directly across from the Hyatt and the Casino on North Terrace so location is excellent for Museums, Gallery and Casino, but why do hotels that were clearly last refurbed in the 80's insist on self rating above the truth of what they really are. Room was adequate though smallish for so called "5" star - bathroom 3 star, bar in lobby 3 star, and the restaurant was closed as was the pool! Remakably we got to use the pocket sized pool at the Hyatt which also has a real gym and is connected to the Casino. However, the concierge (there was one!!) at the Sebel was both helpful and accurate - the first such we have come across in Adelaide. He recommended the Red Ochre restaurant which was very high quality Australian "native" cuisine - woth the visit. But for the hotel in general, nothing much to recommend it but for the Concierge. Would pass in future.

We stayed at the sebel playford in September this year, and I have stayed in other hotels with a simlar star rating and this one definatly was the best!

The service was very good on all aspects of the hotel. We were a group of girls on a hens night aged 18-24 and dispite our age we were treated with respect. The gym although I didn't use it seemed to be fully equiped with treadmills and weights ect. There is also an indoor pool and spa and suana.

We had breakfast included in our stay and I must say this was the best money I have ever spent! They had everything you could possibly think of having in a buffet breakfast, and nothing was too much trouble (even on a sunday morning!)

I would definatly stay at this hotel again, the rooms, facilitys, staff and food were all extreemly above expectations.

It is in an ideal location - only a 10 min walk (max) to the mall, across from the casino and a side street away from night life.

I would definatly recommend.

After a long haul flight from the UK we were warmly welcomed by the staff of the Sebel Playford Adelaide, Formally the Radisson.
We checked into hotel at 8am and the staff made every effort to get us in at this time. Many thanks to Matthew at the front desk who was the duty manager on that morning for his superior service and local expertise. He went out of his way to book us into a local boutique restaurant Red Ochre Grill which made for an amazing start to our Australian vacation. Highly reccommend.
We stayed in a unique "Loft" room which was beautifully furnised and had all the touches of a fine boutique style hotel.
The service and facilities are the highlight of this hotel and the pool and spa are open 24 hours was a treat.
The staff simply made our stay unique and we felt like VIP's all the way till our departure.

Many Thanks, we will be back very soon.
