“Nice studio apartment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2009

We booked a studio apartment at the Quest on King William partly out of desperation since I was unable to find a more boutique hotel at a reasonable price. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and spacious it was. It was nice to have a kitchen to store breakfast items and a table to eat at. Watching TV from the nice couch was also a nice addition. Although the apartment was long with only one window in the bedroom area, it did not seem real dark to us even though we were there when it rained for three days. We had room 6A which had an outer door that we could close for more privacy and noise control. In fact, it worked great when we had some over-enthusiastic guests staying down the hall from us (management talked to them as well). The great location only a block from the Rundle Street Mall with several restaurants at the end of the mall was great. Also easy walking distance to the Central Market and restaurants around there. Free tram right outside the door made it easy to get around if you didn't feel like walking. Staff was friendly and nice. Only drawback was the airport pickup was at the hotel across the street and it was cold and rainy the day we left. Would definitely stay there again or at any other Quest property. Good value for the money.

Good room but the internet had a strange setup that even their tech expert could not get working on my laptop. And their lobby business center signal was strong, but they could not give me the password. On the plus side, free washer/dryers were welcomed. The car park is down the street and not too difficult to use. But the best part of this hotel is its location - in the central downturn within walking distance to the Central Market and the restrauant street next to it.

We'd stay at the Quest on King William if we visit Adelaide again. The staff was pleasant and helpful. It is located in the heart of Adelaide within walking distance to most attractions along North Terrace and Rundle Mall. It was a bit of a pain unloading and reloading the bags from our car in the tiny driveway behind the hotel that is shared by a few other buildings. To get to the driveway you must drive westbound on Grenfell Street from Gawler Place. The driveway is on the left just before you reach King William Street. Our studio room was great, bed comfortable, and had a nice bathroom. The window is double-paned which blocked out most of the noise. Though Friday and Saturday nights revellers and hotrodders could be heard during the night, even on the 7th floor. Our window faced Grenfell Street. As stated by other reviewers, parking is a bit of a pain. Overnight parking is $12/night, which isn't so bad. We were given a swipe card to enter and exit a commerical garage three blocks away. No problem, except on the third day I tried to exit the garage, and the card didn't work. I pushed the intercom button and told the attendant I was staying at the hotel, that I had arranged to park in the garage for the entire week, and that the parking charge was billed to my room. He said I had to sort it out with the hotel and wouldn't raise the gate to let me out of the garage. So I had to park again, walk back to the hotel, and get another swipe card. I don't know if the first card the hotel gave me was bad, or if they didn't give me one coded long enough to last my entire stay. Either way, it was a pain. But no other problems after that. There are two internet computers in the hotel lobby (one of which never worked); the hotel will sell you a card with a PIN to access the internet. 60 minutes costs $6- quite reasonable.

Great location, right in the middle of town, but still quiet if you have a rear-facing room. Taxi stand right outside and plenty of eateries close by for breakfast and other meals. Also 24-hour convenience stores close by. Room was as advertised. However, we battled with the air-conditioning during our entire visit and never quite managed to obtain a good room temperature. Big bathroom but tiny shower recess located in one corner – why? Also no shelf space in bathroom and only one towel rail. Front desk staff, although very friendly, didn’t seem to know much about life in Adelaide and gave vague directions. (Surely it doesn’t require a trip to the transit organisation when the Glenelg tram runs outside your front door and there’s a tram stop less than 100 metres away.) The bed was OK – a bit hard but still serviceable. Would still go back there if visiting Adelaide again.

We stayed at the Quest on King William for 4 nights, in a studio apartment and were very satisfied. The reception staff were helpful and friendly and, as is usual with the Quest chain, the apartment came with basic catering facilities (microwave, hotplates, good size refrigerator etc). The apartment was spacious and comfortable, and had double glazing which virtually eliminated noise from outside. We noticed from the floor plan that each apartment on the floor is slightly different in layout (but they all seemed to be a good size). This is presumably the result of the building being an older one that has been fitted out for apartments. The rooms are serviced daily, except on Sundays (but we were told we could have extra towels etc if we needed them).
The location is very central, right on King William Street, with the tram just outside and with easy access to the Rundle Mall, Victoria Square, Gouger Street restaurants, Casino, Festival Theatre etc. The downside of this is that, due to the central location, it’s a few minutes walk to the nearby commercial car-park where parking is available at a discount rate.
Our only minor issue was that the windows could have done with a good clean!

We stayed on the quest for one night and enjoyed thoroughly the very central location and the design of the flat with two side of the room slightly separated created the illusion of a two room appartment in a studio !!!

It was clean and well equiped but it had not been aired for a while and the initial smell was damp and not welcoming. However, once a bit of fresh air had gone into it, it was a nice flat.

On the down side, it is an old building and old rooms. No issue with this as they are cleaned but this quest is not as new as other we have seen.

Still would go there again without worries.

Firstly we do not know Adelaide well and our sat nav system in the hire car kept trying to send us right via streets that you could not turn right into to access the Quest on King William. SO for us it was difficult to access the entrance to our accommodation. Parking is not on site but is offered and only a very short walk away.

The reception staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I commend their cheerfulness and efficiency. The accommodation was excellent and once we got the car parked we found the environment very relaxing. The rooms were sufficiently soundproofed. We had a room right on King William Street.

The only negative would be the pillows. They were not the best in level of comfort. Everything else was satisfactory to good and represented excellent value for money.
