My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here last night and it was a wonderful hotel experience. We arrived very early, hoping to drop off our bags but were immediately checked-in and allowed to use our room. We were on the 11th floor with a view over North Terrace and the foothills. The room was HUGE with a gorgeous marble bathroom which was also very large. There is a great deal of attention to detail at the hotel and the little touches are much appreciated such as premium quality bathroom goodies and lovely boutique teas in the tea/coffee making area. Lighting is good, towels in the bathroom are plentiful (first time ever in a hotel were I haven't had to ask for more towels!!) bed and bedding divine. There is a bit of a "somewhat tired in the paintwork department" kind of feel as you stroll from the lift to your room but this is really the only flaw we could find.
What really sets this hotel apart are its staff. From check-in to housekeeping and on to hospitality they are without fault. There was even a hand written note in our room from the Guest Relations manager saying how delighted he was to have us stay at the Intercontinental for our Anniversary and offering his personal contact details in case there was anything we needed. This completely blew us away. No one does hand written notes these days. It was a lovely touch and much appreciated.
Breakfast this morning was wonderful and if there was anything the staff could do to make it even more memorable, they were only too willing to please. Make sure you try the tiny pancakes on the hot buffet, they are heaven in a mouthful. Coffee is offered as either brewed or espresso style via a massive Nespresso machine which is skilfully operated by a staff member. The buffet is replenished very quickly and the tables are cleared efficiently with a bright smile. There is also no need to sneak a croissant into the toaster (frowned upon by most hotels) as they are cooked fresh right there in the dining room and served deliciously warm.
Check-out was equally smooth and efficient and we were sent on our way with the hope that we would stay again soon. After our wonderful experience, we certainly will.
