Having just spent a few nights at this hotel it's very difficult to find anything to complain about. The service was extremely friendly and efficient, even when I found a hair in my meal (which was tasting really good until that happened!) The location could not be better, right in the heart of the city and I was overlooking the river and stadium so had a good view. Rooms are standard intercon rooms, so no surprises there, one tiny little niggle for my room was that it backed onto the house keeping room so I was woken up one morning with banging doors but as soon as I mentioned it, it never happened again.

Dear JT S

Thank you for visiting us recently and taking the time to share your thoughts on our hotel.

Excellent to hear you enjoyed the overall experience and particularly the views from your room.

Thank you for mentioning your meal and the unfortunate presence of a hair - something I have since addressed with our Food and Beverage Manager. Good to also know the noise experienced from the housekeeping area was ceased upon your notifying our staff.

Look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back.

Kind regards

The InterContinental Adelaide is defiantly the best hotel Adelaide has to offer, but it should not be 5 stars. The hotel is dated, old-fashioned and very old and tired. This would have been luxurious 20 years ago but at present it is in dire need of a major renovation to bring it back up to standard. This hotel is a very typical 1980s american chain hotel. The rooms are clean and functional but very worn and tired. The pool area was all tiny with limited seats. Also the ground floor of the atrium is very dated and ugly with 30 year old plants and a dirty sitting area. But on the other hand the lobby is impressive and grand, the bathrooms are large and modern and the location is hard to beat!

Location:
Fantastic location in the heart of Adelaide. Within walking distance of all major sights and numerous restaurants.

Entrance:
The entrance is grand and impressive, provides a very good first impression.

Lobby:
The lobby is huge and very classy. This is defiantly not dated like the rest of the hotel. The lobby provides a great meeting area with a stylish bar and restaurant.

Check-in:
Fast, friendly and efficient.

Buffet Breakfast:
The buffet breakfast was just ok for a major chain hotel. There was a limited selection of food. The service was poor and it was very crowded. But it was in a very nice setting with great natural light.

Room:
I stayed in a classic room. The room was of a reasonable size and was well appointed. The twin beds were very small compared to other hotels. The room was very tired and used. Nearly all the painted wooden surfaces were badly worn as well as the cupboards.
But the bathroom was fantastic. It was large, clean and done in full marble. It also had a separate bath and shower which was good and it featured the luxurious Agraria and Elemis amenities.

Pool:
The pool area was absolutely tiny. There were only a few sun lounges. It was annoying as every time I tried to use the pool it was packed with people, so I missed out.

Although this hotel need some work it is still the best hotel Adelaide has to offer, by far.

Arriving quite tired after a day of flying, while the Intercontinental was an OK choice for a brief one night layover in Adelaide, I can't recommend it for a longer stay despite its seemingly good location next door to the casino. The oddly shaped rooms were clearly designed for the business traveller but offered little in the way of storage for a longer stay then a night or two. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were quite spacious with great water pressure (something I hope for!) Offsetting this however, the inside of the hotel itself is tired and dingy - it is an old Hyatt in disguise with an out of date inner atrium and depressing colors on the wall. We were somewhat surprised at the disparity between the floors and the lobby which is quite showy. All that being said, it was fine for a late arrival and departure 8 hours later. In departing early the next morning, I had hoped to grab a much needed quick cup of coffee from the lobby table. However, no take-away cups were available and despite asking for some, they never arrived. Would I return - no.

I agree with other comments that state that it shouldn't be 5 star. The rooms are nice, however, not what is expected for a 5 star stay. That said, my trip was highly enjoyable. The beds are very comfortable, amenities were good, the staff were always helpful and friendly and the buffet breakfast was definitely a highlight. Also situated very conveniently - close to shops, Adelaide Convention Centre and other attractions. I would definitely stay there again.

Well appointed and comfortable hotel room, but furniture is a bit old and worn. Time for an upgrade I think! On the plus side, rooms are a comfortable size, I had a view of the Torrens River, and bathroom was well appointed. Good strong aircon as well which I find a bit rare.

Very little interaction with staff except for checkin but that was pleasant and professional.

Only issue I had was a missing room service menu in the room.

On the whole, a pleasant stay.

The term 5 stars has been overused. This is one example.Nevertheless,it provided a bed to rest for the night with shower facilities etc.
It was built in 1988 and the whole place is beginning to look a tad weary. The only plus about this hotel is that it was right smack next door to the Conference Centre and it being a 40 degrees celcius plus day, perfect to walk a wee few steps without melting the make up!

Room Tip: This is what I nagged about and kept reiterating and that was we did not want a room near the guest...

The hotel had some very good aspects but a number of ones which are below par for a five star hotel. On the upside, the foyer is large and grand, the bed is comfortable and the bathroom and bathroom amenities are very good. The location within easy walking distance to the city and the room and bathroom were clean and there were good reading lights. I also enjoyed the breakfast although it was not as extensive as many other 5 star hotels. On the downside, the rooms need an upgrade and are functional rather than beautiful , the TV remote did not work from the bed. On phoning the concierge, I was told that the remote needed to be pointed to the bottom right of the TV for it to work. Our room was not serviced until 2.30pm and there was no turn down service. The internet was expensive and there was no free bottled water, no wine glasses in the room, no attractive view and no good down pillows. I cannot understand why the hotel cost $300 a night, except perhaps lack of competition.
