“Great hotel, but not value for money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014 via mobile

Fabulous looking hotel and all the facilities are wonderful, but really not value for money. We stayed for 3 days and tried to book the restaurant the first night but it was fully booked (it was Valentines Day so not too surprised). Tried to book the 2nd night and it too was fully booked, didn't try the 3rd night, just went out to dinner and on our return the restaurant was empty! Have been in Australia for 3 weeks and this is the only hotel that charged for the internet - $25 per day. Just feel that if they can charge you for anything, they will.

Dear DJinks

Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor and for your valuable feedback on our facilities.

We were experiencing a considerably busy time when you stayed and it is unfortunate you were unable to enjoy our Riverside Restaurant on this visit.

To respond to your mention of the internet charge. IHG Rewards Club members receive complimentary internet and membership to the program is also offered upon check in to the hotel. My apologies if this was not the case for you. Please do contact our Guest Relations Manager on email: an.avina@ihg.com who would be delighted to join you up.

Kind regards

It has been many years since I last stayed at the InterContinental in Adelaide. In fact, it was a Hyatt hotel the time I visited. I had very fond memories of the hotel so I held high expectations despite the passing of those years and, I was not disappointed.

On this occasion I took my family so interconnecting rooms were booked in advance with an additional bed required in our "children's room". A cheerful young lady on Reception greeted us and check-in was completed in no time. Our rooms (1617 & 1618) were clean and contained all of the usual attributes you would expect of a hotel of this standard. The beds were supremely comfortable and a pillow menu is offered. Mini bar prices are in the normal range you would expect (relatively expensive).

We had rented a car during our visit to Adelaide and the vehicle was cared for by a smiling young valet and I would add that the cost is not too steep given the service and close proximity of the vehicle (no waiting for your car when requested).

Was everything perfect? Yes, but with one "curiosity". Our rooms each had only one supplied bathrobe. I have no doubt that Housekeeping would provide a second robe if requested, but I thought it a little odd that two robes per room was not "standard". This very minor aspect did not distract from a delightful stay at the InterContinental.

The staff were professional, efficient and welcoming; the hotel itself is in good condition and deserves to retain its rating and, the location of the hotel is excellent being in the heart of the city. So, despite the passage of years, the InterContinental Adelaide still has "it". Well done.

Dear Speedbox

Thank you for your continued support and your review of InterContinental Adelaide. It was a pleasure to have you staying with us once again.

I am pleased to hear that you had a memorable stay with us and especially enjoyed your well-appointed room with comfortable beds, the location of the property and service of our staff. It was also beneficial to receive your comments on the valet service you received.

To put your curiosity at rest, we currently provide one bathrobe in our guestrooms, however, we are in the process of increasing this to two bathrobes following constructive feedback such as yours. In the meantime, our Housekeeping team are only too happy to provide a second bathrobe upon request.

Kind regards

Was in Adelaide for a couple to night and stayed at the InterContinental Hotel, Adelaide room 1220 the standard of the room and cleaniness was very poor. The carpet was full of stains, the room did not look like it had been cleaned properly. More of what you would expect in a 2 star motel

Thank you for recently staying at InterContinental Adelaide and may I also acknowledge the feedback you've provided regarding your allocated room.

I have personally attended to the room in the meantime to address the cleanliness and conditional issues that you have highlighted.

Rest assured, our team prides itself on a positive room experience and this is not a normal occurrence.

We have stayed in this Hotel before and it is always a little windy near the entrance because of all the high buildings Excellent staff who were all very helpful. The Hotel is in an great position for shopping, restuarants and visiting Adelaide. The train station is next door which is ideal for trips to the sea. There is a large bar which is very buzzy and the breakfast is fine.

Immediately you are impressed by the grandeur of the hotel but when you get settled the disappointment hits. I am a platinum IHG rewards member and right off the bat got put in a room next to the maids service area where they were in an out slamming the door. Had to move.

Then it was hot in Adelaide so I gave them the benefit of the doubt with the A/C but the next morning it was regular temperature and the best we got in the room was like 20c.

Next we were in Australia for 20 days so the luggage was maxed out weight wise. Having stayed in Intercontinental's many times, usually they have a scale in the room. When we didn't have one we called downstairs and they said no problem. Then they called back and said all the scales were in suites which were all full. Then they said they should be able to accommodate the next morning. The next morning they claimed there were no scales in any rooms and that we would have to use the scale in the gym.

Having said that, with the exception of those we asked for a scale, EVERYONE else on the staff was amazing.

Room Tip: Stay away from the maid's service area, room 1911 is next to it so I would assume 19 on any floo...

Dear Batt2

Thank you for recently staying with us at InterContinental Adelaide and relaying your feedback through TripAdvisor.

We continually seek ways to enhance our guest experience and, on this occasion, there were a number of shortcomings as you highlighted.

It was particularly interesting to read your overview of the request for weighing your bags on a scale. Thank you for mentioning this and note that I have personally looked into this with our Housekeeping and Concierge teams to ensure this confusion does not reoccur.

May I also thank you for congratulating our team overall on their hospitality.

Kind regards

This is a wonderful hotel with great staff and a lovely feel about it. We stayed four nights in February and I could not have picked a better hotel for the location or the ambience. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was to die for. We were on the 18th floor with lovely views of the river. Could not pick a better location right next to the railway station and five minutes from the centre of town. We will stay here again when in Adelaide.

Angela was on duty when we arrived on a very hot day around mid morning. She was charming and efficient and soon had us on our way to our room. This was a good size with a writing desk and a couple of arm chairs and a spacious bathroom. Light switches were random and one we never found!

We had an executive level room up on about the 24th floor with lovely view out towards the sea at Glenelg. Angela mentioned that lunch was being set up in the lounge so down we went (about the 20th floor) There was an ample sufficiency for us to unwind in the cool of the ost unusual Exec Lounge we have come across: it was a 20th floor atrium soaring up to the 25th where the ceiling was opaque glass. This made it light and airy. It was also very spacious with plenty of places to either loll on a sofa or eat at a table for 2 - 4. The young waiter opened a fresh bottle of fizz for me and helped my O.H. choose a cold local beer.

The supper and breakfast choices were very good. No mains of course in the evening but all the making of "sharing platters", hot and cold, sushi, good cheeses and pleasant puds. There were European and Asian hot dishes at breakfast.

I am writing at length about the executive lounge because elsewhere there has been much criticism. It was excellent but maybe the Hotel has upped their game.

Our room was clean and comfortable and I can't get too emotional about whether refurbs have happened as long as everything I experience, works, is fit for purpose, is clean and stain free and the décor does not have a "lived in" look.

There was a difficulty prior to our arrival and it is outside the scope of this review. Except to say that it was put right PDQ and with apologies.
