“A day at the Museum”

It's free and it's brilliant. I work for a Museum and always check out other museums on my trips and Adelaide is probably one of the best I have seen. Volunteers and security do most of the work with 90% of the exhibits in cases so not a big staff presence. Was surprised they let people take photos in their Aboriginal Cultural Exhibition but each museum has its own ways. Lots of different stuff to see and it's free.

“Lots To Learn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

We spent a lot of time at this museum because there was so much to see. If you get tired, you can sit and watch numerous videos, which are very informative. There's a gift shop on the premises with lots of interesting things to buy. The best thing is that the museum is that it's free.

“Excellent museum, and free”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

World class museum. The range of stuff they have is incredible. Dinosaur bones, tigers, meteorites, aboriginal heritage. Really is great. Would particularly be appreciated by kids I should think, really educational. I is also next door to the Art Gallery of South Australia, so worth doing both at the same time, but I recon kids might appreciate the latter less

“OK for a rainy day”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

Despite good aboriginal and South Seas sections, I felt that the displays were rather tired and uninspiring. The "taxidermy" section on the ground floor seemed hardly worth its "premium" location and was not a good introduction to the museum. OK if you get caught on North Terrace in the rain and you can fill in your time until the rain stops.

“Great place to spend a few hours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

The ground floor is taken with the shop and various displays of stuffed animals from around the world, the sort of display you can see anywhere. But head up to the other floors and here are all the animals, insects, fish and reptiles that you will find in Australia with full descriptions and an indication of how dangerous they are.
When you have explored the museum visit the museum cafe which offers an excellent range of food and beverages.
