“Amazing Australian art”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

This museum touches on early South Australian history, with paintings, artifacts, and scenes of early settlement. I'm not an art buff and I found it engrossing. The Hans Heysen works are particularly great. I've been back a couple of times. The building itself is gorgeous as well. Definitely worth a visit (and the free price tag can't be beat!) if you are visiting beautiful North Terrace.

“Realms of Wonder: Jain, Hindu & Islamic Art of India”
Reviewed November 17, 2013 via mobile

A fantastic exhibition and it is free. There was also a terrific free guide. I assume that she was a volunteer but she was very well informed and honest when she did not know the answer to a question. Of necessity the tour could not cover all the very special treasures exhibited here but could only skim the surface. I know nothing of this form of art and have not visited India- yet! It was gobsmackingly awesome in the true sense of the word. If you have an opportunity do not miss this exhibition. If you can, make time. You won't be disappointed.

“Art it is!”

I had a look through and it was just simply lovely. It was easy to get around and everyone who worked there was more than happy to help me with any questions.

“A Good Experience, Well Set Out & Very Friendly”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

The permanent collection is fascinating and is set out in two parallel parts, the Australian Collection and then the European collection. There are some excellent painting and we particularly liked the way that older paintings are interspersed with modern works and some video installations. In the lower galleries there was a special exhibition of Works from the Indian Sub Continent and everywhere very friendly and helpful staff. To this must be added the pleasure of a welcoming cafe and gardens. The Cafe providing drawing/colouring sheets and crayons as table covers together with jigsaw puzzles on other tables. Last but not least, it is very central on North Terrace and is open from 10.00am on a Sunday whilst others do not open until after midday.

“Lots of steps to climb”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

Great gallery. Worth a visit and free to enter. The only thing to consider is the amount of steps in the building to get to all the displays.
