I had a look through and it was just simply lovely. It was easy to get around and everyone who worked there was more than happy to help me with any questions.

“A Good Experience, Well Set Out & Very Friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

The permanent collection is fascinating and is set out in two parallel parts, the Australian Collection and then the European collection. There are some excellent painting and we particularly liked the way that older paintings are interspersed with modern works and some video installations. In the lower galleries there was a special exhibition of Works from the Indian Sub Continent and everywhere very friendly and helpful staff. To this must be added the pleasure of a welcoming cafe and gardens. The Cafe providing drawing/colouring sheets and crayons as table covers together with jigsaw puzzles on other tables. Last but not least, it is very central on North Terrace and is open from 10.00am on a Sunday whilst others do not open until after midday.

“Lots of steps to climb”

Great gallery. Worth a visit and free to enter. The only thing to consider is the amount of steps in the building to get to all the displays.

“Spend a thought-provoking and interesting couple of hours here.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

We stepped into the elegant building to be welcomed by a very knowledgeable person who obviously loved her job and the gallery. Whatever type of art you love, as long as you are open to new ideas, there will be something here for you. The paintings, sculpture, video (and more) are arranged in very interesting ways. An example - wandering into one of the galleries via the Exit route I did not see that the theme of the works was 'Seduction'. Not until I had seen everything in the room, and intrigued by what idea held it all together, did I see the sign and it totally clicked - it was wonderful. Videos showing passionate and emotional scenes from films, two sculptures in human form studded with nails, head to toe, and too many more to describe. I sat spellbound for about fifteen minutes watching a three screened video about, I think, the history of Australia. Altogether a very fun and absorbing couple of hours. Don't worry, if you like your galleries more conventionally laid out, there is some of that too. I even discovered a painter that I had never heard of who had emigrated to Australia from my very own home town in the UK. Pay a visit and give yourself a treat.
