“not sure about the animal enclosures”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

I am in the veterinary industry and I went to visit the zoo and while all the enclosures were clean and tidy I was concerned about the size of some of the enclosures. The animals seemed to have very little room to move around freely. The lions were quite distressing for me to see as the male lion was in a concrete cage with no mental stimulation and a tiny cage. He was pacing up and down the cage which is a huge sign of stress.

The rest of the animals were all kept well and I can't complain about how they were kept but because of the few bad areas this really ruined my experience there.

There was a wonderful variety of animals to see though!

“Pandas - Adelaide Zoo”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

With only 2+ days in Adelaide, we decided to see the Pandas. This was lovely, catching a free bus first from outside the Casino. The entry fee at the Zoo includes the Panda visit. We arrived early maybe 9.30 - 10.00 and this is a good idea, as pandas are known to be sleepy. They have their breakfast about this time, so are awake and quite mobile. We thoroughly enjoyed watching them. This is a lovely zoo, not too big and very dooable at our ages 68/72. The children would love the hippos too, they are a bit to the left as your enter. Giraffes are so graceful and meerkats very entertaining.

“An interesting day out, but some enclosures too small”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Our visit to the Zoo was interesting. There are interesting collections of Australian birds, in addition to the very popular pandas, Funi and Wang Wang. From the human point of view the zoo is very user friendly, it is relatively flat and shaded. However, I was concerned over some of the enclosures, they seemed too small for their inhabitants, this was particularly true, in my view of the big cat enclosures.

The cafe near the entrance is worth a visit, their salads were good.

This was one of the few places that we visited in Australia that gave us seniors discounts although we do not have Australian seniors cards.
