Owner description: Enjoy this extremely popular tour to Kangaroo Island where you will experience the highlights of Kangaroo Island, one of Australia's tourism icons. We will pick you up from your hotel if required and transfer you to SeaLink's Kangaroo Island ferry for the 45 minute crossing to Kangaroo Island. Both ferries are large and luxurious with a licenced cafe and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Keep an eye out for dolphins that frequently swim along with the boat! Your day tour will visit places including Seal Bay, Flinders Chase National Park - a sanctuary for native Australian animals including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, platypus and echidna, marvel at geological formations Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch and visit Hanson Bay Koala Sanctuary. Also included is a delicious 2 course lunch! Come and see why this tour has received a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 3 years running. Operated by Kangaroo Island's biggest tourism provider, SeaLink.

The ferry is of good size and fairly comfortable with the option of sitting inside or outside on the upper deck. Food is available but with only being a 45 minute trip you can do without if being budget conscious. Keep your eyes peeled, on our trip leaving Kangaroo Island we saw a pod of dolphins next to the ferry!

The ironic thing about Kangaroo Island is that it is hard to see any kangaroos. It used to be that on SeaLink's one day tour you would go to a reserve where you could walk among kangaroos and feed them Purina "roo" food. However, when we took this tour three years ago they had skipped the kangaroo stop. Our bus driver told us we now had to take the more expensive two day tour to include the kangaroo stop. As a result, we have not taken this trip again on our more recent trips to Adelaide.

It is true that are other interesting stops such as the sea lions, seals, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, an old lighthouse, and a eucalytpus reserve where you can see koalas. However, most people taking this tour expect to see kangaroos. Our bus driver did try to spot some kangaroos in the wilderness as the bus sped by but was not able to find any.

Dear The Curmudgeon,

Thanks for your review of the KI Highlights Tour. It is a bit ironic isn’t it, given that it’s called Kangaroo Island but the fact is that sometimes it is difficult to see many kangaroos when you are only there for one day. This is especially so during the summer months and during the heat of the day when kangaroos are much less active and tend to just laze around and rest in shady places. Dawn and dusk are the times when they are most active and like to graze on the grasses etc.

The Wildlife Park that you are referring to sounds like the Parndana Wildlife Park in the middle of the island. We still include a visit here on one of our day tours called the Remarkably Wild Day Tour that forms part of the 2 Day Coast to Coast Tour. Many people enjoy the two day tour as there is so much to see on Kangaroo Island as it is such a large island and they get more time at locations.

I am sorry you didn’t see any kangaroos in the wild on your last trip. Hopefully next time you can spend more time and maybe even take a self-drive holiday where you can go to any spot on the island that you like. We can help you with ferry travel for you and your car and accommodation or you can even hire a car if you wish. We hope to see you again some day :)

Our tour was well organised and packed full of interesting stops & attractions with our driver/ guide Les filling our travelling time with stories & info about the island. Packed so much into our 2 days, we would highly recommend this tour to others.

We actually flew to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide.
It was the highlight of our trip. If you want to see koala bears, kangaroos, wallabies and little penguins in the wild and not in the zoo, go to this island. The landscape is beautiful. We also saw many birds. We stayed at kangaroo island seafront hotel in Penneshaw. It was a nice, simple and clean hotel. The breakfast was delicious.
The best part of this trip was the Sealink driver/ guide named Dave. What a nice, knowledgable and interesting guy. We learned a lot and spent a very nice day with him.
Make sure you do not miss Kangaroo island when visiting Australia!!!

The tour started at 6.45 am and we returned at 11.00 pm. This was the most unorganised company we have ever toured. To board the bus to get to the ferry which is about 2 hours we have to check with four (4) drivers to find if we were on their list as passengers. It was the same when we got to Kangaroo Island, we had to check with the drivers. We did about 350 kms to see some Koalas, Kangaroos, Seals, Sea Lion and some rock formations. The lunch was pretty ordinary for the price we paid for the tour. Personally I would not recommend this tour. This tour was run by Sealink
