This hotel was great value for money, we booked a week before and still only paid $140 for a one bedroom apartment on NYE.

Staff were very gracious and the security guards were pleasant enough. From what I overheard at checkout the staff are more than able to assist travellers with sightseeing and recommendations.

Our room on the 1st floor over looked Hindley street and was noisy as would be expected on NYE I'm not sure how noisy it would be any other day of the year.

The room was modern, clean and very spacious. Great pillows and excellent water pressure.

On request we were also allowed an extra 30 minutes to checkout.

Dear Ashes856,
Thank you for taking the time to review your NYE stay with us, it is indeed a very busy night for Adelaide hotels.
A recent sustainability initiative at the property saw installation of 'water saving devices' to all our showers, this is estimated to save well in excess of 2 million litres of Murray River water per annum, therefore it's pleasing the shower pressure was found to be excellent.
I am also pleased to read our staff were gracious and the rooms modern, clean and spacious.
Regards
Darren Ward

We stayed for a week over the Christmas period and had booked a twin-bedded 1 bedroom apartment. We were given a 2 bedroom apartment and this certainly added to our comfort and made us very appreciative.

Our compact 2 br apartment was on the side facing Adelaide's night entertainment street, Hindley Street. As it was Christmas, we did not have any problems with noise from the street or from the nearby venues.

The apartment contained a mini kitchen area with microwave, toaster, fridge, crockery and cutlery. The fridge had mini-bar supplies but there was plenty of room for our own supermarket purchased supplies.

The bathroom contained a washing machine and a dryer. The washing machine didn't work properly much of the time but this was a minor annoyance (we had to keep restarting it - I think we just got a dud machine). The bathroom had a shower with water pressure so strong it felt like you were being blasted with rocks - we absolutely loved it. 5 or 10 minutes in the shower and you felt totally awake and ready to face the day.

They now have LCD TVs and micro-hifi units in the apartments. A DVD player can be rented from reception for $10 per night if required. The apartment had 2 airconditioners - one in the main living area and one in the primary bedroom. Both functioned well and kept us cool throughout the hot Adelaide Christmas week.

There are vending machines in the carpark on the ground floor if you need a snack or a soft drink.

Reception staff were friendly and engaging. We chose the eco-rate to save some money - your room is not serviced every day but you can have fresh towels and soap if you require. This worked out well for us as we had our stuff everywhere and didn't want it being disturbed.

The location is terrific - the free city loop bus 99C stops right outside the Breakfree and we made much use of it. 1 street away is where you can catch the Jetbus service to the airport and the tram service is also only a street away.

Some people complain about the noise from Hindley Street - mainly Friday and Saturday nights - but you can ask for an apartment away from the front of the building if this bothers you. You need to keep in mind the price being charged, the facilities being offered before being precious about a bit of street noise. There are plenty of other more expensive places to stay that may be quieter - you just have to open your wallet a lot more! For us, we liked the combination of the price, the standard of the accommodation and the location.

Overall it was a pleasant and comfortable stay. Being able to make your own breakfast, do your own washing and keep your own food supplies is an absolute luxury when you're staying somewhere for more than a couple of days.

We would stay here again.

Room Tip: If you're sensitive to noise then ask for a room that is located away from Hindley Street

Our hearts sank as we drove up Hindley street and saw the locale was very "mean streets". The apartment was small and smelt mouldy/unclean. The beds were small and uncomfortable. The surrounding streets were noisy till late with drunken revellers, there was even a fight during the night. To block out the noise from the street we shut the windows, but then had to turn on the airconditioning to get some air in the rooms - they were old and noisy. We barely slept. In the morning we reaslised that the huge complex we were next to was the Adelaide Remand centre! We only stayed one night, and checked out as soon as we could find another place to stay. PS We had not originally chosen this hotel - the last minute and unaviodable unavailability of our booked accomodation meant we were re-directed to the Breakfree by an agency.

I have stayed at the Breakfree on Hindley 5 times in the last year. The staff are utterly amazing. So friendly and helpful. Secure parking and security on door (on weekends) is fantastic! However, the quality is lacking. Property is great to be used as a hub, great location, easy walking distance to shopping restuarants etc. Great property if in need of an apartment.

This property is in serious need of a refurbishment. It should be classified as a 3 star and they should serious reduce there prices as you do not pay for what you get.

Overall an very nice/okay hotel. Which must be doing something right as I always return. I would only suggest for an night or two, not a week stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on hindley street as you will not be able to sleep, especially on a Saturday nigh...

Dear Leishie_Lou

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay.

The staff were happy to hear your positive comments regarding the high service standards you experienced during past visits.

We also appreciate comments on areas you found not so pleasing. Regarding the value proposition; we are continually developing packages throughout the year which are highly competitive. I would be happy to direct you to any promotion available at the time of your next accommodation requirement. Please feel free to contact me directly at the hotel to find out more details on these.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Over the past 3-4 years i have stayed here around a dozen times. Each time i watch the standard of quality slowly, but consistently, drop.

Sure the location is great for someone who likes the nightlife. A stones-throw from many of my favourite night spots....and the folk at reception (whilst usually confused) are always friendly.

A thrill as well, is the walk back to the hotel in the early morning hours, dodging the brawls and vomit running in the gutters.

BUT, back to the original point. The quality of the rooms are becoming so bad that this hotel will need to drop a few stars sometime reasonably soon. Such as:

- I opened a cabinet in the bathroom (searching for a non-existant spare roll of toilet paper) and the door fell off in my hand.
- i opened the sliding built-in/wardrobe door in the bedroom, you guess it...it fell off as well.
- someone i think might have washed a Husky in the bathroom sink.
- i am a smoker, but didnt really enjoy having a butt stuck to my foot after stepping on one on the balcony
- and the best for last.......
....there was a used condom under my bed.

I know you dont know who i am and that you probably dont care....but i have spent thousands at your hotel over recent years...

and i am giving you one last chance..before i take my wallet elsewhere..

Well I guess the first place to start is that the rooms are rather more run down than they appear on the web - but with that said they are reasonabley well appointed although our bathroom plumbing need work as the washing machine downpipe overflowed. Yes they property is in a dodgy place of town and as we were a school group it was a little awkward walking into town through the "pink" light district with 9 and 10 year olds. (Oh yes it backs on to the remand center for the prison too). On our first night in the place we had three drunk people walk into our room at midnight as reception had issued them keys to our room believing it to be empty. As if this wasn't enough on our fourth day there I left my $350 Spencer & Rutherford handbag in our room while went out for the day and on my return discovered it had been taken. This was annoying but made infinitely worse by the fact that my son and my passports were in the side pocket!!!! As it transpires, after a very restless night worrying about the logisitcs and cost of getting new ones issued, the helpful reception staff located it. Apparently the housekeeping staff thought it was "rubbish". Hmmm. With this said I did find the majority of the recption staff great to deal with given the dramas we had. Sadly though I would never book here again. Sorry.
