“A brilliant eat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

My husband and I dined at Bartons Restaurant for the first time ever because we had some Split the bill vouchers.
We are so glad we did.
It is a new discovery for us, The Caledonian Hotel appears non-descript from the outside, outward appearances have never encouraged us to wander in despite living 5 minutes away.
Fortunately we gave it a go!
It turned out to be a most enjoyable dining experience. We were served by a delightful waitress who appeared to enjoy her work and take great pride in it. She was attentive but not obtrusive and offered her service with cheer and positivity attending to all our needs. The food is of a very high standard and it is clear that this restaurant uses quality ingredients. I ordered the Duo of beef: a tender and succulent beef fillet along with a flavoursome, melt in your mouth delicious short rib served on a horse radish potato puree with beef jus. The presentation was stunning and it was PERFECTLY cooked with a taste to match. My husband had the free range chicken risotto with mushroom, leek, black truffle and pecorino cheese. The presentation of the risotto was very ordinary but it too was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I enjoyed my meal so much I just had to squeeze in the Date and Pecan tart with bitter chocolate foam and cocoa nibs. This was a good choice with a contrast of flavour, texture and temperature, leading to a perfect eating experience. The bitter chocolate foam looked rough around the edges and did not add anything to the appearance or presentation of the dessert. Luckily it added to the eating pleasure in taste, texture and sensation. It was a sort of frothy bitter chocolate mousse that had been frozen and this strong chocolate taste married perfectly with the chill factor. The pecan pie filling was divine though the pastry could have been improved upon in my opinion- no matter it was a delicious meal from start to finish. The steak was $38, the risotto $26 and the dessert about $9. With the Split the bill voucher, the food cost $41. The decor is pleasant enough.
We will definitely come back again and again for the fantastic food.

“Nice Enough”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Went for a birthday dinner with my wife and everything was OK. Food was nice without being great, service was fine without being exceptional and overall it was OK.
Great chardonnay on offer, so that was a bonus. Scallops were nice, but very small. No bread roll offered, smallish serves of nice food, but overall it was OK.
Service was good, but you couldn’t use the Entertainment card and BYO. Not sure why?
Overall a little expensive for the size meals and doesn't quite reach the desired result.

“Parklands View, Petite and Tasty but Average Value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

We went To Bartons restaurant for Friday lunch. We both decided that the little delights menu was a good option option for a light lunch. The waiter did mention both courses were entrée size. At $28 for a choice of two courses we had a main which was pan seared barramundi with slow roasted tomato, crispy bacon Wilted spinach and a sprinkling of pine nuts. For desert we couldn't go past the chocolate indulgence. A very nice meal with good service. If I may add one suggestion a small dinner roll would have been a nice accompaniment to complete a nice meal. Just loved the big windows overlooking the park lands with a few young lads kicking a footy around, which made for a relaxing feel to the afternoon.

“Good quality hotel restaurant, with pleasant ambience, good food and attentive service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

Bartons is an upmarket pub restaurant- main courses are around AUD30.

The prices reflect the quality of the food, ambience and service. It is a cut above the average pub meal.

I had an excellent pâté appetiser- somewhat expensive for the size of the serve (it was in a shot glass) but very tasty, then an excellent fillet steak, with a tasty pepper and bourbon sauce.

For dessert, the Chocolate Indulgence was decadent- and good value.

The wine list is intelligent, and many wines are available by the glass.

For an upmarket, restaurant style meal, this pub hits the spot.

“decent food, slow service, pleasant ambience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

The title of this post sums up my feelings. Being understaffed is one thing, but existing staff trying to ignore waiting customers while engaging themselves in non-urgent time fillers spoiled what could have been a pleasant experience. We'll try again because first impression may have been an aberration and the place has good potential.
