There were 40 of us here last year fro NYE, a sit down meal supplied and paid for drinks at $95 a head. It was a fantastic evening.
This year was a little different at $144 a head for cocktail food and alcohol, soft drinks (excluding spirits), on offer. We had spoken to many of our friends about last years success and several couples also came along on our recommendation.
The outside area was very nicely set up for all the guests and of course you could not have a better vantage view of the fireworks at midnight.
I can say drinks flowed continuously all night, but the food and service staff were sadly lacking. I saw people waiting outside the kitchen doors waiting for the staff to appear so they could get some food. It became glaring obvious they had not planned the menu well to the number of guests when suddenly bowls and bowls of chips started arriving at the tables. Drinking on an empty stomach is not recommended and it started to show for many of the patrons becoming quite drunk.
And yes we got Maccas on the way home, we were starving!
I hope Regattas has learnt a lesson from this years dismal failure and go back to a successful format they have had the previous year!!

When planning our holidays in Adelaide we searched for a place where to spend New Year’s Eve and start the decade. We thought that the Regattas by the river would be a good choice. No doubt the view would be nice. The Menu looked interesting and although the $144 per person was a bit high, we decided to book a table. We knew that the menu was subject to change but we never imagined that one of the changes would mean lots and lots of French Fries. But, that wasn’t the worst part.

The organization was appalling. They had hired very few waiters and waitresses so it was almost impossible for them to serve all tables. To make matters worse there was a group of utterly rude people who “attacked the trays” as if they hadn’t eaten for a couple of months. The result was empty trays, i.e. no food left for other customers.

My husband spent hours without being able to grab anything to eat. I was lucky because when I went indoors to complain about the service I was offered a salmon terrine (as a matter of fact I had another one while sitting)
As most people were hungry, and upset as well, they started serving French Fries (Yes, French Fries)

From the savoury menu we were able to have:
Salmon terrine (very nice)
Potato gnocchi, rocket and hazelnut pesto, aged parmesan (average)
Pork cheek bao with kimchi slaw (below average)
Chilli, lime and szechuan pepper squid (below average)

As for the sweets, the waiters and waitresses served more regularly by the end of the night. However, though we were still hungry and outraged at the bad service we just had one cannoli and one red velvet slice because the idea had been to have dinner and finish with something sweet not have a sweet dinner.

I’m giving the place one star because of the waiters and waitresses, with a special mention regarding Alex. If not I would have given Regatta no stars at all.
The lack of organization was shown from the very beginning. One area on the promenade was closed due to the private event. Fair enough. You would imagine a person been there to see that nobody got in without a ticket. Fair enough again. However, we weren’t allowed to enter and had to walk downstairs, then several metres and next up some stairs again.

When going to the airport on the following day to come back home, the Uber driver told us that our terribly bad experience at Regattas didn’t call his attention at all.

Sample menu (subject to change):
Savoury
• Gazpacho shooters with crispy jamon serrano
• Beef tartare, truffle aioli, porcini cured egg yolk
• Radish ceviche, avocado crema, aioli and sourdough (V)
• Salmon terrine
• Mini panzanella salad (V)
• Potato gnocchi, rocket and hazelnut pesto, aged parmesan (V)
• Beef katsu sando, miso aioli, pickled onion
• Pork cheek bao with kimchi slaw
• Chilli, lime and szechuan pepper squid
Sweet
• Cannoli, salted caramel cream, pistachio
• Eclairs: Coffee mousse, Raspberry cream

New Years Eve party was extremely poorly executed! Bring a ticketed event there was no surprises in number attending and was only at about 40% capacity. Oyster bar was tucked away in corner near toilets, umbrellas were all still in place conveniently obstructing fireworks, food was extremely under supplied with the kitchen reverting to half cooked soggy chips to feed guests, cider was flat. A grazing table of the cold items could have been setup, perhaps having more than a dozen pre-shucked oysters... won't be there again.... great location destroyed by terrible management...

Stopped in for a decaf coffee, and was surprised at how good it was. Lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy the views. Will be back.

A clean modern and casual venue for a relaxing catch up overlooking the river. Seating indoors and out. As a group booking, platters of food were served all of which were very tasty and well-presented. Bar staff were happy chappies and quick to serve you. Just a few minutes walk from the Oval and hotels and city highlights. An enjoyable evening spent here.
