We took the train a few times in the CBD. We also rode to Gleleg beach (20 min ride) - you can prepay your ticket or pay on the tram. The fare is reasonable. We were only on modern trams, not the old one seen in the advertisements. The trams were clean and fast. Glenelg is a nice beach, but had some seaweed. We walked out on the jetty and looked at some shops nearby.

Trams come every 6-7 minutes on weekdays and every 12-15 minutes on weekends. They are also clean, new and quite spacious (except perhaps during peak hour, but what can you do?)

The best attraction for us is that tram travel is free in the CBD. This is a godsend, especially when you consider the large size of the CBD of Adelaide, and if you want to get to Glenelg, you would be hard pressed to find a better way of getting there.

Calm, efficient, comfortable, froendly and helpful staff. I use this service daily and compared to the train and bus it is faultless. A 10 trip ticket from newsagents saves a lot ($33 in Oct 12) and for cysclists or commuters there is good parking to get into the city.

Why take a car when it's so easy to catch the tram to Glenelg. Although it was crowded both ways (University Games and school holidays) the service was prompt and staff pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend.

Gets you there but don't expect seating. Not good for family travel
Cost is OK but wouldn't want to travel with the kids on it too often
