“Eco Tourism Highlight”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Think of a remote part of the South Australian coast, add friendly tour guides Mick and Alan, mix with coolish water temperatures and throw in some performing Sea Lions for good measure and you have my highlight of visiting Baird Bay while on a Kirkhope Aviation short break air tour.

Donning a wetsuit for the first time and swimming with the ever graceful Sea Lions in their environment was just experiencing nature at its best!!

The inquisitive little faces popping in and out of the water, frolicking with us strange "humankind creatures" in wetsuits was my soft adventure eco-tourism highlight at Baird Bay on this trip.

“Swimming with the Sea Lions even better second time round”
Reviewed January 20, 2012

We took family with us this time so there were 7 of us ranging from a 7 yr old to a 70 yr old. The weather was a stormy but Alan (the skipper) new the weather conditions and we saw the Dolphins first and then went to the Sea Lions - it was perfect.
Three other children on the tour all were able to swim with life rings and still snorkel.
Tips take warm jackets as when you get out of the water it is cold. The water is cold, the provide a wet suit but if you have a rashee you should take it.
No shops so back your lunch so you can eat afterwards (they do give you hot chocolate and biscuits which is very appreciated)
Book online! Don't make a phone booking.

“Swim with wild sea lions -brilliant eco experience- excellence all the way - worth the trip to Baird Bay”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

Wow a brilliant experience- swim/ snorkel with the seals and dolphin tour. Cost about $140pp for around 1/2 day tour - Every detail was excellent from start to finish. Alan and Trish have done a brilliant job with the new visitor centre, accommodation and tour. They are lovely and know there stuff- in a nut shell an A1 operation, the visitor centre has coffee and light refreshments including delicious pasties!. The swim with the seals was exhilarating! A quck 15 to 20 minute boat ride out and your in the water. The seals were really curious and playful and get right up and close- everyone had a ball with these adorable creatures. Loved it, would go again, well worth the day long drive from Adelaide. Would have loved to stay at the Apartments on the foreshore but they are usually booked out

“Swim with Sea Lions and Dolphins at Baird Bay.. a brilliant experience”
Reviewed January 3, 2011

http://www.bairdbay.com/

Me and a mate did the eco tour that included swimming with Australian sea lions and dolphins at Baird Bay. It was a brilliant half day tour that far exceeds what is on offer in Glenelg, Adelaide (for dolphin swim).

I strongly recommend this tour to anyone driving across the Nullarbor or staying in Streaky Bay. It is probably better to stay in Streaky bay which has a pub and some more accomodation options and then just drive to Baird Bay for this tour. There is not much else at Baird Bay.

You will need a car to drive to Baird Bay. It is 50 minutes drive from Streaky Bay. We used this as our last stop before hitting the Nullarbor from the SA side.

Well worth the $140 fee!

“Baird Bay - swimming with sea lions and dolphins”
Reviewed January 27, 2010

If you would like the most wonderful experience in the world I highly recommend this eco travel experience. Not commercialised, relaxed and very safe.
Baird Bay is approx 50km's from Streaky Bay, partly on dirt road. No shops or petrol stations. Drive onto the beach to park. Alan and Tracey Payne are the friendliest hosts.
Obviously these are wild animals so if they are not in the mood they won't swim with you however with patience the colony of approx 20 sea lions will come in and swim with you. They are the most beautiful creatures.
Then off to swim with the dolphins - the only thing that spoiled the experience were some french girls who did not understand the danger of swimming away from the shark shield - but the dolphins were gorgeous.
Highly recommend any age or experience 6 - 60 years of age were on our tour.
