Excellent atmosphere, staff were awesome. We were unsure of what to order so the waitress picked for us and we were not disappointed. Watermelon margarita was incredible

Busy place, kids eat free, great food and good service. Was out favorite on Hamilton Island. Casual and a bit loud
Great for kids.

The title says it all: it's tapas, so portions are small; it's pretty authentic Mexican, and it's on Hamilton Island, so it isn't what you would call "cheap." If you go in with those things in mind, you will be a lot less likely to be disappointed, I think.
We had dined at Tako once a couple of years ago and had a fantastic experience, but we were a little scared about going back once we read some of the reviews here. I was afraid that our previous good experience might have been an exception, or the result of low/no expectations. But, after going back twice more on a recent trip to Hamilton Island, I am pleased to report that all is well.
The service is very good, but it is a busy tapas-style place, and the servers seem to multitask, so we found it easiest to just order a couple things and then flag down a passing server when we were ready to order something else. As a result, we weren't always waited on by the same person, but that didn't seem to be a problem, since the staff didn't seem to be territorial.
It is an open, family friendly place, so it can get quite noisy, but being a couple, we were able to get a table overlooking the marina, which was nice. We found all the food to be very good, though the tako tacos were a bit disappointing. The real standouts were the jalepeno poppers (best I've ever had) and the reef fish tacos. The black bean tacos were excellent as well. Straight out of the kitchen, some of the food is fairly bland (appealing to the Aussie palate, I suspect), but that problem is easily solved by three or four strategically-placed drops of their green habanero chilli sauce; be sure to ask for it if you like a bit of heat. We had the flan for dessert, which was fabulous and actually a more generous portion than I've come to expect from other Mexican places. Drinks are pricey, but they at least tasted like they had a good amount of alcohol in them.
We will definitely be back a couple more times on our next visit to Hamilton Island.

We ate here one night for dinner. Went a little bit earlier and we didn't have to wait long for a table. We ordered a couple of cocktails whilst we waited (side note, we think they might water the cocktails down).

They do have gluten free options which was great to see. We all had tacos or some variation of and they were all pretty nice.

The food was nice and the service was alright -and quite reasonably priced too. It's a nice family friendly place that gets very busy. Not sure why, but we kind-of expected a bit more but to each their own. Still, we would go back and do recommend Tako :)

Like with most restaurants on the island the service was brilliant. We ordered the Grande Platter and loved the array of food offered. Great flavours, fresh ingredients - delicious! Would recommend a visit.
