“Great place to stay on Hamilton”

My partner and I stayed at Palm Bungalows for a wedding, and it was really great. The room was very clean, modern and had everything we needed! We were close to everything, only a short walk to the chapel and the reception. We had a choice of where to go for breakfast, I would recommend avoiding the reef hotel. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and probably the best wedding I will ever go to! If you are looking for privacy, I would highly recommend the bungalows!

We got married on Hamilton island in 2007 (HIGHLY RECONMENDED) and we stayed in the Whitsunday Apartments
We have been back two other times and stayed in the Palm Bungalows and just loved them, housekeeping was very good, room is spacious, has a basic kitchen but we went there to relax not cook so basic kitchen was all that we needed
We will be going there again this March 2014 staying in the Palm Bungalows again and cant wait
The island is great and have found the staff very helpful
Dinning is great but you might want to book some places before you get there as we missed out on the new Bommie Restaurant last time we went to the island (fully booked)
There is so much to do or do as little as you want
This trip will not be our last that's for sure , we love the place

last time we went there was a few yeas ago but this site wont allow me to put that year in

We stayed for about 8 nights in September 2013, in Bungalow 31.
We loved this vacation and were really sad when it was time to leave, even though our vacation actually wasn't over yet!

Positives:
- the bungalow is very spacious, new, modern and clean, in the middle of lush tropical nature, with cangaroos grazing in front of your porch and cockatoos wandering about on the roof. There is also a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, boiler and all the basics you need if you want to eat in. The bungalows in these two rows (the 30's, I think) are also close to Coca Chu restaurant; the hammock on the porch is fantastic, really relaxing!
- the island is simply gorgeous: imagine a lush, clean, well-kept tropical island with clear waters, palm trees, no cars, no traffic and all you need to feel on vacation: from water-sports and excursions to many different pools and relaxing activities;
- Hamilton island has its own airport, making it very fast and convenient to get there and to take further excursions from there
- staff was young, fast, efficient and always friendly and helpful
- for families with young children: the clownfish club looks after children (it's not a free service though) I think already from an early age (our 18 month old attended several days and had a great time); also here staff was wonderful and attentive;
- there are several eating options (from fancy restaurants to informal ones) a small supermarket, a bakery, an ice cream parlour and few other shops. We particularly liked "Coca Chu"'s asian fusion cuisine and the Italian "Romano's", both with tables overlooking the sea, very romantic :)
- in general, it's a very family-friendly island but I'm sure we would have loved it also as a couple
- the island is a private island, which provides for peace and quiet... any "wild" guests can be sent back ;)
- we went mid-September and, incredibly, there were basically no mosquitoes (I'm usually a favourite target and got just 5-6 bites in a whole week!)

Negatives:
- there are no cars on the island, which is great, but people can move around with golf buggies (staff and guests who rent them). We thought that there were way too many of them, disturbing the otherwise very quiet atmosphere. The island is small, we enjoyed walking around and really didn't see the need to use the shuttle bus service nor rent a buggy, especially after a big dinner... ;) we wished more of the other guests would have done the same, instead of racing around the roads...
- we are a vegetarian family and unfortunately the choice for vegetarian guests was between very limited and none: would have been nice to have a wider range of vegetarian dishes (after all, also non-vegetarians can eat them anyway and nowadays it has become standard to offer at least 2-3 veggie meat-free, fish-free alternatives...);
- it is slightly pricey, but after all it's an island, it's 4+ star accomodation and it's a unique place, in my opinion (service-wise) better than other tropical places like Maldives.

If you stay in a bungalow and have a breakfast meal plan included, note that breakfast is served at the Reef View Hotel (a short, 2 to 5 minute walk from the bungalows). Buffet breakfast, served by the pool side, had a wide range of things (although a bit repetitive over the days) and food was good.

As to snorkelling, being so close to the Great Barrier Reef, it's definitely a must to take a day trip to it, but you can also see a little bit of corals and some tropical fish (we saw a turtle and a manta ray too) on the Island's main beach, Catseye. Although the GBR has probably ten times as much corals and tropical fish.

Overall, a great holiday, close to absolute perfection! Definitely recommended.
We would absolutely return every year, if it weren't that we live on the opposite side of the planet!

Please keep up the great work and don't build too much, spoiling that beautiful nature, Hamilton Island!

Room Tip: Bungalows in the numbers upper 20's and 30's range are slightly further away from reception...

The bungalow was very clean, spacious, and immaculately kept by housekeeping, it provided all the amenities we needed and was nicely secluded away from through routes and general footfall.

There were basic kitchen facilities which certainly met our requirements throughout our stay.

The resort ensured that our luggage was taken to the bungalow upon our arrival and picked up for departure at the point of leaving (a sad day).

Not really tied in to the bungalow specifically but the on island transportation network is well organised and frequent, so thank you to minibus drivers who were always cheery and happy to help.

On a side note, its also definitely worth a visit to 1 tree hill for cocktails at sunset.

We arrived on Hamilton Island after an extremely long trip from Brazil. We were met and quickly taken to our room, which was very nice and spacious. The room was clean and modern and basically everything that one would want. The only small annoyance was that the free internet only allowed one device to be active at once.
The downside to the hotel, and I probably should have known this before booking, was that even though there are 'different' hotels on Hamilton Island, they are all actually the same resort. We don't particularly like staying in places like this where it is impossible to get away from the hotel (no matter if it is good or bad).

Dear slatBH,

Thank you for your review, it’s great to hear that you enjoyed staying in our recently refurbished Palm Bungalows.

Our free WiFi does enable guests to connect up to 5 devices per room, I will ensure the connection in the Bungalows is checked.

I am sorry to hear you did not feel you were able to get away from the hotel, one of the things I personally love about Hamilton Island is the ability to explore at your leisure and find places where you feel like you have the island to yourself. Escape Beach is a must!

I hope you had a good trip back to Brazil!

Warm regards

We have just returned from a 6 night stay in the bungalows which was our second trip to Hamilton Island. We were as happy with the stay this time as we were last time and it won't be the last time we visit.
The bungalows are all re-furbed, clean, spacious and beautiful. We stayed down by the pool and it was lovely.
We love the island...so much to do for everyone. We travelled with our 5 year old son who loved the 'kid zone' they had every afternoon for 2 hours which had face painting, jumping castle and all sorts of activities. My husband liked the complimentary paddle boards, snorkel equipment etc and I loved the Wumurdaylin spa. Something that we each loved.
Such an easy and relaxed holiday...nothing that we did'nt like or would change. Staff were great, weather perfect, accomodation beautiful, easy to get to from Melbourne...perfect holiday.
A lovely touch from the General Manager of Reef View Hotel (Matt Boileau) who left us a card and bottle of wine to welcome us back....it was very appreciated and a thoughful gift.
It was a great holiday and we can't speak more highly about our perfect holiday. Our son cried on the shuttle bus back to the airport....'I dont want to leave. I want to live here'. Sums it up!

We stayed at the Palm Bungalows for 4 nights in early January. The bungalows have all been refreshed and are in excellent condition. As stated, Hamilton Island is a big resort and the bungalows provide more
privacy than the big hotels. We were very pleased with our choice and would recommend the hotel without a doubt. The service was excellent. Hamilton Island is a good base to start for a few days and then explore the other islands.
