I had a wonderful time on Hamilton Island, though it is definately not a singles island, all but one of the staff made me feel at home - even though it was totaly out of my life experience. Every one of the staff except for that one exception, I would be prepaired to invite into my own home, even though I am a hermit, the casual interaction of every one onvolved including the Piano player/entertainer has been one of the few places I have experienced in my whole life, that I just felt a part of.

The only thing I would of loved to seen in action was the white yamaha baby grand, which was not available to use by the entertainer as it was out of tune.

Reef View Hotel is a magic spot to stay in Hamilton Island, I would say it would be the highest high rise giving awsome views! We were on the 15th floor, lovely upmarket and simplistic room. Huge Room, balcony and bathroom, large shower, bath, 2 basins, wardrobe. The bed was massive. Fresh towels daily. I cannot say a bad thing about this hotel it was just lovely and made our stay so memorable! Would go back in a flash x

Just got back from 5 nights at the Reef View, despite requesting a garden view room to save some $$ we still had a great view from our third floor room. We stayed here about 3 years ago and thought it all pretty mediocre at the time but wow the revamp...

Positives:
Rooms are great, very nicely done, huge bathroom, comfy beds and piilows, spotlessly clean, great view (L3 and above) etc. Only issue with the room was no drawers for clothes.

Food was also very good...expensive compared to the mainland but still very good so its not a situation of good money for bad food rather good money for good food. We ate at the following restaurants and found them all good...Pool Terrace (Great food and service), Toucan Tango (Bit more casual), Steak House (Great steak, perfectly cooked but need to add sides), Mariners (Very nice - fresh) and the pizza and pasta place I forget the name (Casual but tasty). The kids eat free is a big help for families.

Service was very good throughout the resort too. Despite the staff being young and transient we found them to be excellent, friendly, helpful and most impressively efficient! The place runs like clockwork really...

Clown Fish kids club is excellent and did a great job looking after our kids, the only issue is limited sessions of 3 hours morning or afternoon (Unless you are booked on a full day excersion). Used their baby sitting service and found them to be great too.

Negatives
Not many at all... check in was a bit painful, they need to allocate more staff here when busy.

Hire buggy's have no seat belts, suprised about this in our heavily regulated society. (Many appartment buggy's have seat bealts).

Some of the Island toilets need a damn good clean up (On the marina side)

Happy hours could be a bit more generous on selection and discount but there is an offlicense on the Island.

The conference crowds get a bit much, especially if they decend on breakfast in a large group, but they have got just as much rights to be there too I guess!

Other
We did the Banjo Patterson sailing trip which was a very pleasant day out indeed.

No hestitation in recommending HI for a holiday destination and the Reef View was a great place to stay but be prepared to spend up on food etc, Its not a cheap holiday but as mentioned the food and service is something that the operators of HI can be pround of.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Reef View Hotel and didn't want to leave. The hotel was beautiful and our Coral Sea room on the 12th floor was fantastic. Spectacular views, great LCD tv, nice big bathroom and new toiletries daily was great. The staff were all lovely and the buffet breaky was out of this world. Beautiful huge pool and the best strawberry mocktail I have ever had. Our 2 girls had the best time and ate free everywhere we went and the meals were mostly very good. Cannot wait to return and will definitely be staying at the Reef View again. You will NOT be disappointed.

We were initially shown to a room on the 5th floor, but we complained and so we were given a larger room on the 19th floor, just below the 20th floor penthouse! The views from high above were absolutely spectacular and worth asking for!

However, be warned about the beautiful cockatoo birds on the Island! Do not leave your balcony door ajar! We were told that the birds fly in and wreck the entire room as they search for food in your luggage, pillows, doona etc!

Hamilton island is like a city! Its got all the big city attributes including traffic and high rises! Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying its a bad thing but it was a surprise to us to see all the buggies running around..! We stayed at the Reef View hotel which was a little old, in need of new beds and a few things but I have heard its had a great refurb now.

The island itself is really quite large and has so many things to do, the walk to the Lookout is amazing and highly recommended. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from, all are a little on the pricey side but I guess you look at where you are too. The food is good so we didn't mind the prices. We did a tour to White Haven beach which was just outstanding! Honestly the beach there is like nothing else... Its a must do. We spend many days just lazing on the beach at Hamilton and reading books but it was nice to know that there was also heaps to do.

We tagged this trip with a few nights of luxury at Hayman Island also which was devine.... a perfect way to finish our Whitsunday visit.
