Hamilton Island is a lovely place to go with the family; to relax and enjoy everything the Whitsundays/ Great barrier reef has to offer. It is much nicer than the other islands in my view. I agree with earlier reviews that the Reef Hotel could do with a lift but overall it was clean and the rooms were nicely laid out. The pool and dining area was very nice and once you rented a golf buggy you can just make your way around the island and/or walk to the various restaurants and pools. I loved the sunset bar. Although not quite the cocktails you would expect the sunset and views are amazing. The marina area is lovely and there were some fabulous restaurants. We enjoyed the spa treats and also visited the zoo on across the road from the hotel. I had a friend with us from the UK and she loved it. We also did the daytrip to the reef and had a wonderful day scuba diving and swimming. Hamilton Island is much more upmarket than Daydream or Airlie Beach so I would recommend flying in for a few days enjoying the swimming, restaurants and various activities on the reef!

Room Tip: You will sometimes hear the music from the bar at night and sometimes the water affect if you are on...

Hi jennifer L

It sounds like you packed a lot into your family holiday, and I'm pleased that we were able to show your friend from the UK a such a great tropical Aussie experience.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.

We had a beautiful combined Honeymoon and Family 10 day holiday. The staff were very eager to help and nothing was too hard. We got an upgrade to a Coral View room on the 16th floor it was Devine and We now know that it is well worth the extra money. We had breakfast included in our price and it was awesome to be able to choose between different place for breakfast especially when one you get to have breakfast with the koalas. I wasn't impressed with the Room service or Pool terrace restaurant dinner. We will come back one day soon we hope

Room Tip: The Coral View room is worth the extra money

This was the second 2-night stay to Hamilton Island for my mum and I. We travelled for our shared birthday as a special treat. The staff were aware of this prior to our travel and made the extra effort to give us a free bottle of wine upon arrival - so sweet of them to go the extra mile :)

Again, our stay was wonderful, and despite the gloomy weather, we had a great time. Opting to try different experiences this time (we did the water sports thing last time), mum purchased a 20 minute helicopter flight for both of us over Whitehaven Beach. We would both definitely recommend this, the view is outstanding! The overcast day actually made it a better view, as you didn't have the glare on the water.

We dined in a different variety of restaurants this time too, trying out the Pool Terrace at the Reef View, as well as lunch two days at Sails. We also had the tried-and-tested buffet breakfast at Sails on one morning. All of the meals we had were top-notch. The produce was fresh and prices reasonable. Obviously, you dine towards your own budget and choose from the array of restaurants the island has to offer. There is plenty to choose from that is affordable, as well as for those that prefer fine dining.

A couple of suggestions though regarding dining:
1. I think the island would benefit from having a coffee shop with light snacks such as sandwiches, muffins, quiches etc. for breakfast and lunch on the Catseye Beach side. On our last morning, the sun finally came out and we didn't want to waste time walking over to the Marina or sitting down to a long breakfast at the buffet. We just wanted to get in that pool and sunbake! It would have been great if we were able to purchase a light snack for brekky to start the day, before having a nice lunch at Sails before we left.

2. Although the buffet breakfast is really good - I think for the price of $34 that there could be a little more variety. We loved the made-to-order omelettes and poached eggs, however felt that the chefs could mix it up a bit with possibly having eggs benedict, savoury muffins, mini quiches etc. I can go to my local pub and get the usual bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, fruit, cereal etc. for only $17. Although we were happy to pay the $34, it would be nice if the menu was a bit varied.

The accommodation (coral sea view room) was again lovely and the views fantastic. The beds are really comfy and the rooms are clean and tidy. We stayed on level 13, on the pool side. Last time we stayed on the other side and found it quieter. As a tip, we would recommend asking for the non-pool side, and a room not right next to the elevator. Although we didn't stay in an elevator-side room, as you rode in it you could see straight through the doors of the rooms. Not very private.

Overall, we would definitely be back to stay again at Hamilton Island due to its beauty, convenience (love the towels that can be constantly replaced, departure lounge, free-to-use umbrellas, daily service etc.), atmosphere and variety.

We booked our deal through a special offer in the Entertainment Book at 50% off. It's usually only 30% off, which we couldn't normally afford (even with the discount), so having this special offer was a God-send. I hope that Hamilton Island decides to do this more often as I would love to come back with my husband :)

Room Tip: Rooms on the side opposite the pool, as it can be quite noisy. Do not get a room next to the elevat...

We stayed here in October last year, we loved the Island but found it very expensive for what it was. Reef View Hotel could do with a serious makeover, while it does offer a great view on the higher levels it was really only a place to eat breakfast and sleep, and if we should return I would rent one of the holiday homes. The staff were friendly, the food was decent but I would't stay there again.

Hi JessEnrico,

I'm disappointed that the Reef View Hotel didn't fully meet your expectations.

I personally managed the Hamilton Island Holiday Homes business for many years and I believe that these properties are equally impressive depending on the type of holiday you are after. But at the end of the day we are a hotel and offer a hotel-service to guests, which differs greatly from a self-contained holiday home rental.

As a hotel guest there are many benefits you would not get in a holiday home, such as room service, concierge services, daily housekeeping, Foxtel channels, room-charge facilities, free in-room wi-fi, and more.

But I firmly believe a trip to Hamilton Island is more than a trip to a hotel room with a nice view. I encourage all of our guests to get out of their rooms, to explore the beautiful Whitsunday coast, taking advantage of all the attractions, facilities and services that are available on the island.

If your children were 12 and under, they would have been able to dine free at a choice of restaurants around the island. There is also free use of the tennis courts, squash courts, gym, resort pools, as well as free access to all non-motorised watersports on Catseye Bay. All of these options are complimentary to guests of the Reef View Hotel, and are very easy to take advantage of.

I hope that we can welcome you back to Hamilton Island again in the future, and if you were to stay at the Reef View Hotel, I'd love to welcome you back and help you make the most of your holiday with us.

Warm regards

We stayed here in mid April. Firstly our room was upgraded, which put us on the 18th floor. Thank you the views were amazing. We had a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us on arrival which just made us feel even more welcome and special. The staff were so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We had an amazing honeymoon and cant wait to come back. The buffet breakfast is well worth it - those chocolate croissants delicious and eggs cooked to perfection, poached or omelette.
Id also like to thank everyone at the Gym, such friendly people, you guys rocked.

Room Tip: Higher floors have an amazing view.

Hi afterjustgoodfood,

With a name like that I am especially proud that you are raving about our food!

Our buffet breakfast is a must for guests to start each day off on the right foot, and we get such great feedback from everybody on the quality of this poolside breakfast.

It's great that our hotel staff (and our friends at the Gym next door) were so helpful, and could make your honeymoon so special. We can't wait to welcome you back.

We stayed here the last week of April and had a wonderful stay. We chose 1 room even though we were a family of four - 2 daughters 18 & 20 and found it plenty big enough for the four of us. The sharing of 2 beds in one room was not a problem and the bathroom was huge. To be honest there was so much to do on the island that we only really slept in the room. We also opted for the cheaper garden room and although a lot of people prefer the higher (and more expensive) rooms for the view - again - we were hardly in the room to take advantage of the views. We did not use the balcony as it was hot outside, and all meals were had out of the room so no need to. Loved the breakfast included as it meant for me, as a Mum, it was the first real relaxing holiday where I had no cooking or dishes to do. Huge breakfasts meant we didn't need much in way of lunch, and then dined out in one of the many restaurants each night. All activities and eating places were only a 10 min walk or could catch one of the free buses. Was a once in a lifetime holiday but would love to go back again at sometime.

My husband & I recently stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. We had the most enjoyable time. We were booked into a coral sea room but on arrival found we had been upgraded to a suite compliments of hotel management. ( thanks Matt & Alycia). We were truly treated like VIP's. We would highly recommend the restaurant downstairs & if you like duck, have the duck.it was beautiful. The staff were friendly & very helpfully, especially our wonderful suite concierge Alycia. A special thanks goes to her for all she did to make our anniversary one to remember. Alycia went above & beyond for us & for that we are extremely grateful.
I would recommend that you book your restaurants the night before as they do book out & you wouldn't want to miss out. The food is amazing. I would also recommend a treatment at Spa Wumurdaylin. The staff there are friendly & very good at their job.
The only activity I wouldn't recommend is Renegade Charter Fishing (very disappointing) & this is NO reflection on the hotel what so every. The seaplane to Whitehaven is a ABSOLUTE MUST!
We would highly recommend the Reef View Hotel Hamilton Island.
Thank-you.

Room Tip: Ask for high level floors. The views are amazing
