We booked to go on the seaplane flight from Hamilton Island out to the reef (including Heart Reef) then back to Whitehaven Beach for a Champagne and nibbles platter then returning to Hamilton Island.

Hamilton Island Air were very helpful and professional in every way. From being picked up from our door to the cleanliness of the plane to the quality of the pilot. They couldn't have done anymore.

The champagne and nibbles was great including cheese and crackers, mini muffins, fresh biscuits, fresh fruit platter and bottled water. The pilot and assistant carried all our goodies including laying out our picnic rug for us and opening and pouring the bubbles.

The flight over the reef was amazing with ample time for heaps of photos. The pilot was happy to do another pass if you missed your photo. Because our day was perfect we were also able to do a touchdown near the reef as well.

Overall it was money well spent for a quality tour, and arguably the best value trip on the island. I will be recommending it to all my friends.

We were originally booked in for the reef ryder experience (sea plane tour over the Barrier Reef, then land near glass bottom boat and go snorkeling in a much smaller group than is at the Reef World). The winds were too high the day we were scheduled to go and it was our only full day on Hamilton Island, and seeing the reef in this manner was the entire reason we came to HI. HI Air upgraded us to the "fly/fly" helicopter trip to Reef World. Essentially, we had a private helicopter tour over the reef and over Whitehaven Beach, then landed at a pontoon on the reef and went to Reef World. Reef World can have hundreds of people at once snorkeling, but because of doing the Fly/Fly, we arrived after everyone had left to go back for the day, so we had the ENTIRE place to ourselves. That was pretty incredible. We could do whatever we wanted the entire 2 hours we were on the pontoon. We snorkeled for about 1 hour and got to see tons of fish, huge clams, etc. It was really incredible to be there alone with just us two in the water. The fish were so friendly and would swim super close to us, checking us out just as much as we were checking them out! We also got to go out on the glass bottom boat, which was OK, but I suppose it's really only good for parents with small kids or for those who don't want to get wet.
Some nice touches by HI Air: a little snack sack set up for us with champagne, fruit, cheese, snacks, water, juices. We didn't want to waste time at the reef drinking champagne so we took the bottle home with us and enjoyed it that night on our porch! It was a really amazing trip.

Visited Whitehaven on our first trip to Hamilton Island and knew we wanted to go back. As a little birthday treat, we decided to get the helicopter trip which included an hour and a half on Whitehaven and morning tea with sparkling wine.
Hamilton Island Air picked us up from The Beach Club and we watched a safety video on our way to the terminal. There was a little bit of waiting around until we departed. The pilot was friendly and gave some good commentary as we flew out to Whitehaven and took in views of Hill Inlet. The flight was nice and smooth and there were fantastic views. Once we were down the pilot set up our morning tea and then left us to it. They provided stinger suits and snorkelling gear. Sparkling wine was nice as was the morning tea. Despite a cloudy day, Whitehaven was still stunning.
What a great trip out and the guys at Hamilton Island Air great too.
Very Happy with our trip.

Three years ago we travelled to Hamilton Island as a family. Keen snorkelers, we opted for Reef World as it was cheaper and seemed to accommodate for all our needs. We were all very disappointed, the coral was dull in colour and finding nemo was near impossible!
This year my mother and I have returned to Hamilton Island. Keen to give it another go, we opted for the REEF COMBO tour with Scotty and Hamilton Island Air.
IT WAS AMAZING. The pilot was full of useful facts and commentary and would circle over particularly spectacular parts of Whitehaven beach, Heart Reef and the Great Barrier Reef itself, ensuring we had the perfect photo.
We snorkelled in our own secluded section of the reef, away from the general public and this was truly breathtaking. Big bright parts of the reef, thousands of fish and amazing blue water. We found Nemo :)
If I could recommend anything about a trip out the to reef, pay the extra money and take the sea plane out with scotty and his crew. It is a thousand times better than Reef World and the boat trip from hell.
